Hello,

I'll be traveling from Italy through Hungary and finally Czech, with my wife, who is an EU citizen. She holds an Irish passport, and I a South African passport.

InterRail pass is only for EU passport holders and Eurail only for non-EU passport holders. What ticket do you advise us getting?

I looked at the Eurail select pass (4 countries) Italy, Austria, Hungary and Czech.

Both IR and ER ONLY pay off when you make MUCH more as those straightforward trips-many sidetrips and internal in those countries.
The rules are NOT as what passpt you hold-but HOW LONG you have been IN the EU-if over 6 month, you qualify for Interrail-but have to prove it- ZUidafrikaners would need visa, permits to stay, etc.
You also did not state age and that may make the diff: as EuR is for 1st cl for adults >26 and IR can get for 2nd=cheaper and 1st.cl. Most think that 1st cl. is a waste of money for those countries.
without giving more detail as to intended trips etc your Q cannot be answered fully now.
