Hello,
I'd like to ask you a few questions.

I understood that I can use night trains, but I need a reservation.
I know I can make a reservation online, but I'll only have a phone and not all the reservation can be made using smartphones... (e.g praha-dortmund)

let's say I'm in Praha and I want to take the Night Train from Praha to Amsterdam.
What should I do?
Remember that I cannot make a reservation using my smartphone (i tried).
I want to reserve a seat.
What should I do? can I make the reservation directly at the train station, and pay just 11,50€ for 1 person in compartment?
(this 11,50€ is for praha-dortmund, checked on bahn.de)

should I reserve praha-dortmunt or praha-amsterdam? how much would it be for praha-amsterdam and where can I find the prices? because i can only find prices where my first/last station is in Germany!
and if I reserve just praha-dortmund, is it okay if I continue my journey until Amsterdam?

Thank you!

Hi!

The standard way to get train reservations is at the ticket desk of a train station. Usually you can get reservations at all staffed stations of the countries a certain train runs through, additionally you can also make reservations from abroad, in this case it depends from country to country which reservations are available.

So it is no problem to get your reservation at the station in Prague. However it might be sensible to get it a few days in advance as the night train can be full, especially during summer peak and at weekends. There is no way to predict that 100% though.

Reservation prices are not depending on distance, so you should always get a reservation for your actual route you want to travel.
Online reservations for CNL trains are an exception, an online reservation for eg Prague - Dortmund is also accepted if you want to go through to Amsterdam.

Thanks flo you're awesome! :)

I've another question for you,
I'm italian, could you please correct me if I'm wrong:
-I want to get the EuroCity (EC 12) from Milan to Zürich.
-I'll buy the ticket only from Milan to Chiasso (9EUR, 4.50€ because i've a 50% discount thanks to Interrail) at Milan Train Station
-I'll then continue my journey to Zürich without worrying about reservations... as my interrail is valid in Switzerland.

is it correct?

if so,
i'll then get the night train from Zürich to Wien (EN 467) that leaves at 22:40
is it okay if I buy a seat reservation directly at Zürich Train Station?
it'll be just 5 EUR, right?

Thank you so much!

You're welcome. Please be fair and help us helping you and purchase your IR pass at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - thank you. :)

The Base fare Milano - Chiasso on the Eurocity is 14€, thus the reduced fare would be 7€...but for Italian residents leaving Italy with international trains a special Partial Pass fare is payable. You would have to check at your local station how much that would be.
Another alternative would be to get a regular ticket for a Trenord train to Chiasso and enter the Eurocity there - again, no reservation needed as you start in Chiasso which counts as a domestic journey within Switzerland for which no reservation is needed.

You can purchase the seat reservation for the night train in Milano as well if you want. Anyway, if you have a bit of time, I would recommend travelling the Bernina route instead: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/

Thanks flo... you're so useful! :D

I've another question... i swear i won't bother you anymore.

- I'll go from AMSTERDAM to PARIS,
using these free connections: https://rail.cc/en/train/amsterdam-to-paris

- I'll then take the night train (ICN 3731, https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-barcelona ). from PARIS to PORTBOU.
How much does this connection cost (at the end of july)? i'll make a reservation for a normal seat, if compulsory.
will i be able to make the reservation as soon as I arrive in Paris?

- then PORTBOU - BARCELONA, free.

THANKS SO MUCH!

Well, I hope you reward this with the purchase of your pass at the railcc shop... ;)

I recommend to get the reservation for the night train earlier. A seat is 6€/couchette 18€ but reservations for these prices are limited as SNCF has a very small quota for InterRail travellers on their trains.
Try to get it in advance, best thing to do is buy it before you go. Should be also available at [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux]

I see I can only reserve a SLEEPER/COUCHETTE, it's 25 EUR (paris - portbou night train).
how can I reserve a seat?

thanks again, I'll surely buy all the reservations using railcc ;) ... unluckly I can't buy the ticket here as I'll leave this wednesday.
But I'll buy all the reservations!

Hi.
That's sad that you won't buy your Interrail pass on railcc. As reservations are only an extra service for railcc customers. We don't earn a cent on selling them.
If no seats are available in the system, you will have to try it somewhere at a railway station.
Btw, the reservations are also send by letter, like the Interrail pass.
Have a nice trip. Peter

aww I thought you earned also thanks to reservations...
I'll buy it tomorrow at the train station and leave on wednesday... :(

Thanks guys for your help, I really appreciate it and I'm sorry I can't buy my pass on here, it's too late for me to buy it here.

I'll try to reserve this train on the go directly at train stations, will I be able to reserve it only in Paris? or is it possible for me to try in other cities like Berlin...Amsterdam etc.

Alright, no, we dont earn through the reservations sold at rail.shop/acprail/reservation - it is just an extra service we are able to offer through or ticketing partners.

You can make reservations not only in the country/countries where a train runs but also abroad. I would recommend to do so in Berlin (or Switzerland) already, dont do it in Amsterdam (or the Netherlands in general) as they charge extra booking fees.

Experience... ;)

Travelling by train, browsing the internet, reading magazines and books,...still enough new stuff to discover. :)

If you want, tell us a bit about your trip when you return. Where you had problems, what was nice,...etc.
