Hello!

Me and my girlfriend are looking for some tips/info on getting from Nice to Zagreb. We will be leaving Nice on July 28th (Sunday) and heading in the direction of Croatia. I'm looking to be in Zagreb before the 1st August (I have some friends who live out there who go away on the 2nd August so going to try catch them before they go!). Doing some research it looks like we could hit Venice for 1 night then go to Zagreb but I am open for ideas!

Some more info on the trip we will be doing for context:

Plan(ish): Paris(1 night)/Barcelona(4 nights)/Nice(2 Nights)/Zagreb/Pula/Munich(??)/Paris
Interrail ticket: 10 days within 22 days.
Travel dates: 21st July till 9th August.

We already have Paris/Barcelona/Nice sorted route wise. This has used 2 of our days on the Interrail ticket.

I am also quite open on where to go after Croatia. As long as we are back in Paris for the 8th (Eurostar booked for the 9th) then happy for options (I placed Munich down as I know you can get a night train from Zagreb and its easy to get back to Paris). I did want to check out Bosnia or any other eastern European countries if possible but I also am aware I'm getting further away from Paris. :P

Thanks in advance!

Regards
Neil

Hi Neil...
Have a look on these connections... there are always options to avoid extra reservation fees.

Nice - Milan: the IC you use on the Italian part of this route are free - but we recommend the reservation for EUR 3, so you have a seat and don't have to change all the time. As normal train tickets are sold with reservation. But these reservation are not shown in the train about the seats. Buy it in Nice station for example.

Milan - Venice: use a free local train if you want to save the EUR 10 for the high-speed train - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/milan-to-venice

Venice - Slovenia: cross the border like this - https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/
Schedules Venice to Ljubljana: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/venice-to-ljubljana
Ljubljana - Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/ljubljana-to-zagreb

EXTRA information:

I personally don't like Venice. A city full of tourists and expensive.

In Slovenia I recommend Lake Bled area.

On your way Paris to Barcelona, include the Little Yellow Train - an amazing trip trough the Pyrenees:
https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

Barcelona to Nice is possible by free trains - a day trip along the coast: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/barcelona-to-nice
See also here: https://rail.cc/blog/scenic-train-cote-bleue/

On your way back from Croatia, you could easily include Budapest, Krakow, Prague, Vienna or Berlin. Just check the schedules here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
There a good night train connections from Berlin or Munich to Paris.

And please help us to help you with the information on railcc - buy your official Interrail pass via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - as it is not fair to ask at railcc for support and buy somewhere else. Thank you!

Pete :)
