Hi there,

I was looking to book tickets from Milan to Zurich later this year travelling on the Bernina Express.
There is a train that leaves Tirano at 2:04pm and arrives in Chur at 18:27pm which is the one we want to take.

When I go to book these tickets online it gives me the following 2 options:
• Individual tickets from CHF 44.00Via VEREINA ODER ALBULA
• Individual ticketsfrom CHF 45.70Via THUSIS-BUS PAG-RHÄZÜNS-CHUR

I'm not sure what either of these means? Can someone please help me?
I thought there was only 1 train at this time so how can I have 2 options?

Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi!

Is this the only trip you are planning to do by train?

Where did you get these prices quotes?

Hi Flo,

We're also doing a rail trip from Madrid to Barcelona.
The prices I posted above came from a search I did on the SBB website before I came across this site :D

Do you know what the difference is between these 2 options?
• Individual tickets from CHF 44.00Via VEREINA ODER ALBULA
• Individual ticketsfrom CHF 45.70Via THUSIS-BUS PAG-RHÄZÜNS-CHUR

The Bernina trip looks amazing.

Hi Marc!

For Madrid - Barcelona you can check for tickets here: rail.shop/acprail/renfe

The difference between the two tickets offered on the website of SBB:
Via Vereina or Albula: This is a train ticket, for either the route via the Vereina Tunnel (Samedan - Sagliains - Klosters - Landquart) or the Albula Tunnel (Samedan - Filisur - Thusis - Reichenau-Tamins). You can choose which way to go, the Bernina Express runs via the Albula route.
Via Thusis - Bus PAG- Rhäzüns - Chur: This is essentially the Albula route however from Thusis to Chur by bus (PostAuto Graubünden)...you should not choose this option

Anyway, I am still struggling to figure out why you are quoted these prices on SBB website. :?:

The trip is indeed amazing. :)

Hi Flow,
Thank you so much for your help. We will definitely be taking the first option and not the bus. Other prices I was quoted on the SBB website expensive (We selected first class)?

So glad I found this website. I've been using it to research the Madrid to Barcelona trip ;)

Thanks again,
Marc

Humm, I dont get the 44 CHF.

From where to where did you look for prices? For what date? 1st class?
I am shown 105 CHF full fare for Tirano - Chur.

Hi Flow,

30 CHF the starting price I just noticed.
If I change our date to an earlier time I also get 105 CHF for first class.

Cheers,
Marc

30 CHF is 2nd class half-price fare for which a Halbtax (reduction card) is neccessary.
44 CHF then probably is some kind of advance fare.
105 CHF is the anytime 1st class regular fare.
