Hi, my itinerary is as follows

Arrive in Berlin, 10:00 - 09/07
Leave: 06:46 - 12/07

Arrive in Prague, 11:26 - 12/07
Leave: 22:29 - 14/07

Arrive in Krakow, 06:35 - 15/07
Leave: 22:11 - 17/07

Arrive in Budapest 08:35 - 18/07
Leave 05:10 - 21/07

Arrive in Ljubljana 14:06 - 21/07
Leave 08:15 - 24/07

Arrive in Zagreb 10:35 - 24/07
Leave 23:20 - 26/07

Arrive in Split 08:02 - 27/07
Leave 28/07 ferry

Arrive in Dubrovnik evening 28/07
Flight back from Dubrovnik 01/08

Is it worth getting an IR pass and if so should I just get a 5in10 for the first part of the journey or a 10in22 to cover the whole thing?

Hi!

Get a 5in10 plus Zagreb - Split locally.

Berlin - Prague: 39€ Europa Spezial (special price) or 66,20€ regular fare
Prague - Krakow: 632 CZK (24€) Včasná jízdenka Evropa (special price) or 1094 CZK (42€) regular fare
Krakow - Budapest: ~68,80€ regular fare, no special prices available (online)
Budapest - Ljubljana: ~61,40€ regular fare, 39€ Ljubljana Special (special price)
Ljubljana - Zagreb: 14,60€ regular fare, no special prices available

So, 185,60 if you book Berlin - Prague and Prague - Krakow in advance; the Budapest - Ljubljana special fare should be available locally. With InterRail 181€ plus 4€ seat reservation on the night train Prague - Krakow (where seat reservation is included in the regular fare).
Since you wont have to go to the stations to buy the tickets (just once, for instance in Berlin, to get reservations for the night trains), and have extra flexibility I think you are better off with the 5in10 IR ticket.

Thank you. :)

Ok thanks, but I don't really understand the prices you've quoted. Do you need to pay a special fare if you have the IR pass? And how do reservation fees work?

Thanks for helping

I've quoted the fares you'd need to pay without InterRail. Special fares are offers with special conditions (pre-booking time, limited exchange, refund and availability); regular fares are standard prices if you show up on the day and book your ticket.
Special fares usually come with a reservation included (where needed), regular fares with or without, depending on the connection.

With InterRail you would need reservations only for the two night trains: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/prague-krakow-en-443/148 https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/krakow-budapest-en-402/124

Total price (except for Zagreb - Split):
Regular tickets: 253€ plus reservations for both night trains
Special offers (where available): 185,40 plus reservation for night train Krakow - Budapest
InterRail: 181€ plus reservation for both night trains

Ok, when would be a good time to book the reservations? Can it be done the day before or something or should I book before leaving?

Well, since you are from the UK it will be difficult to get reservations beforehand. You can try at rail.shop/acprail/reservation but note that this will be more expensive than at a station! We dont earn a penny with these, it is just an extra option we are able to offer - but the standard way to get reservations is still at a station!
You should be fine if you make the reservations for the two night trains when you arrive in Berlin. Note that even there the reservations can be a bit more expensive as stated in the two links since we always list prices valid in the country where a night train runs. In other countries reservations can be a bit more expensive.
