Hi guys,

I'm new here and I'd like to introduce myself. I live in France and I'm starting my first interrail journey from Rome July 7th. Anyway, I saw this route:

Zurich (Switzerland): From Zurich trough the Swiss Alps to Italy

And it interests me a lot, but there are a few thing I don't understand:

Where should I sleep? I mean, it says it takes two days, but it doesn't say anything about stopping somewhere to sleep.
And also, what about the food?

If you could answer my questions I would be very grateful. Or maybe you could suggest another route :D

I plan to be in Zurich July 14th.

Hi.
Do you mean this route from Zurich to Milan: https://rail.cc/en/train/zurich-to-milan
You can also travel it in one day, as Switzerland is rather expensive to stay somewhere overnight. But it is definitely an amazing route!! :)
If you want to stop somewhere, do it for example in:
Pontresina - https://rail.cc/en/pontresina/youth-hostel-pontresina/l1138
Ospizio Bernina - https://rail.cc/en/ospizio-bernina/albergo-ospizio-bernina/l1139
And I hope you buy your Interrail pass here at railcc: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] -thank you! :)
As it is not fair to ask here for help but to buy your Interrail pass somewhere else and give your money to others. In this case you should ask the other company for support.
Peter :)

Thanks a lot Peter. I guess I'll do how that, because Switzerland IS expensive (for the non-swiss). I hope I'll be in Milano at the end of the day. :D
I'm really sorry Peter, but I already bought the Interrail pass directly from interrail. I only found out about railcc after started doing my research. But I already recommended it to a lot of my friends and I hope to contribute with something from my travel experience.

If you leave Zurich early it is no problem to get off the train at say Ospizio Bernina and hike down to the next station at Alp Grüm. And if you have heavy luggage just walk around the station at Ospizio Bernina which is nice as well. :)

Thanks flow. It seams I will have to cut a part of this trip and go directly from Chur to Milano (passing par Bellinzona).

Oh, by the way, there is a EuroCity train between Milano and Genève. You might want to add that to the train connections.

As more people buy at railcc, at more time we have to add trains ... ;)
Have a nice trip. :)

Well, then you should not go to Chur in the first place...or do you plan on visiting the city?

Well, I wanted to make this trip mostly because of the swiss landscapes.

As Flow mentioned, the Zurich-Chur part of the Alps route is not really that exciting...in that case I would travel via the normal route from Zurich to Bellinzona and then Milano. It is also quite nice as far as landscape goes and you don't have to pay extra (unlike Chur-Bellinzona!) if you take the regional train between Milano and the border to Switzerland.
However if you have one full travel day I would really, really recommend the Alps route too! It is very scenic and if you're lucky you might be able to travel Tirano-Samedan in one of the old, open cars attached to some trains...they are pretty awesome, as long as it's not raining :D

What do you think of my tour?

Zurich - Brig
Brig - Disentis/Muster
Disentis/Muster - St. Moritz
St. Moritz - Tirano
Tirano - Milano

Do you think I should go to Zermatt?

How many days do you want to spend in total to get from Zurich to Milan?

Zurich - Brig is not particularly interesting, especially if you use a direct IC train which runs through the Lötschberg Base tunnel.
Brig - Andermatt - Disentis is quite beautiful, personally I really like the Andermatt - Disentis section across Oberalppass. However, I would prefer to go Zurich - Arth-Goldau - Göschenen - Andermatt instead of the route via Brig. The nothern part of Gotthard route to Göschenen is quite scenic itself but especially the short bit from Göschenen to Andermatt through Schöllenen gorge is really beautiful although parts of it run in a avalanche gallery.
Disentis - St Moritz - Tirano definitely would be the highlight of the tour. :)

Well I only have one day, so I plan leaving Zurich like at 6 am. I really need to be in Milan at the end of the day. Then the next day go to Genève and then return to Grenoble.

Humm...well I think that the route Zürich - Chur - Samedan - Pontresina - Tirano - Milano would be the most convenient option then: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/zurich-to-milan

If you decide to go via Brig - Disentis or Göschenen - Disentis remember that InterRail is not valid on the network of Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn MGB operating on these routes. Only for Youth InterRail pass holders they grant a 50% discount.

Wow, that finishes early. There might be other places I could go that day.

Yeah. Well, you could also take a later train from Zurich the 6am is quite early I think.

If you want to invest a bit of extra money, I would go from Zurich to Göschenen, then to Andermatt through Schöllenen Gorge, on to Disentis - Reichenau-Tamins - Samedan and onwards across Bernina to Milano. You might also make stops along the route, for instance at Oberalppass and/or Ospizio Bernina and Alp Grüm.

There are many many options! :)
