Hi guys.
Just in the process of planning my first ever inter-rail trip. (Will be purchasing my Inter-rail pass from railcc when i've figured out the final few details :) )
Here is a general plan of my trip so far:
(I have already booked the flight to Berlin)
10th Flight - Berlin - Arrive Late
11th Berlin
12th Berlin
13th Travel to Dresden
14th Dresden
15th Train to Prague (Activate 5 in 10 day pass)
16th Prague
17th Prague
18th Prague / Brno
19th Brno
20th Bratislava
21st Bratislava
22nd Vienna
23rd Vienna
24th Venice / Lake Garda
25th Venice / Lake Garda
26th Venice
What do you think of this plan? Do the connections etc make sense?
My only concerning journey would be Vienna to Venice or to somewhere near Lake Garda (Italy) as this would be the longest journey, I think.
Am I trying to do too much in too little time?
Thanks for any advice you can give, it is really admirable all the advice you guys give on here, I will be telling my friends to buy from this website too.

Hi,
I'm looking to book my return flight and train pass this evening, would anyone be able to just check my route before then?
Thanks!

Hej Daniel!
Thanks for supporting, glad you like the website. :)
Sorry for replying late. ;)
Well...IMO spending two days in Bratislava is a bit much; I think one day would be enough or even just a day trip from Vienna. Instead I would recommend to either go to Budapest or add another city in Austria (Salzburg, Graz,...although the latter would be a bit off route) or even make a short visit to Switzerland.
How do you plan on getting from Berlin to Dresden? Dresden to Prague is with IR, right?
I count five trips: Dresden - Prague; Prague - Brno; Brno - Bratislava; Bratislava - Vienna; Vienna - Venice; how do you want to travel to/from Lake Garda?
From Vienna you could use the overnight train to either Venice or Milan: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/vienna-venice-en-237/96 and https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/vienna-milan-en-235-480/94
My suggestion would be to travel via Switzerland and the scenic Bernina route instead: Night train Vienna - Sargans https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/vienna-zurich-en-466/64 where you change to Chur and onwards to Tirano - Milano: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/zurich-to-milan You could make a break on top at either Ospizio Bernina or Alp Grüm; some pics are here https://rail.cc/en/interrail/zurich-to-milan and here https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
From Milano it is no problem to continue to Lake Garda; for the remainding leg to Venice you could then use a regular ticket bought at the spot on one of the following days.

Hi,
No need at all for apologies. I really appreciate your advice.
Not a fan of Bratislava? Not much to do?
In honesty I had hoped for a little more time in Italy anyway, so your suggestions help me!
Your route makes much more sense, having looked on the map, and those pictures you linked look beautiful!
Here is a revised plan:
10th Flight - Berlin - Arrive Late
11th Berlin
12th Berlin
13th Travel to Dresden
14th Dresden
15th Train to Prague (Activate 5 in 10 day pass)
16th Prague
17th Prague
18th Prague / Brno
19th Brno
20th Bratislava
21st Vienna
22nd Vienna / Train to Milan?
23rd Milan
24th Milan/ Lake Garda
25th Lake Garda
26th Venice
27th Venice
Would it be better to activate my pass on the 15th, when I go to Prague, or maybe on the 18th when I go to Brno and onwards? On the other hand, would it actually work out cheaper overall, do you think, to have a 10 in 22 pass?
From Berlin to Dresden is just 19Eur if I book in advance, according to Bahn.De.
I have booked my return flight from Venice at 21:35 on the 27th :) .
Again, thankyou for your help. I will be booking my pass through railcc after your next reply when you think I should activate my pass.

OK, so you want to travel the Bernina route through Switzerland to Milan/Lake Garda? Cool! :) Keep in mind though that you have to use the night train from Vienna though, otherwise it wont work with the limited travel days you have.
You are doing fine though with the 5in10; you will just need the Berlin - Dresden and (Milan -) Lake Garda - Venice tickets in addition which will be 19€ plus 10/15€.
For the night train from Vienna to Sargans a 5€ seat reservation will be required, however I think if you travel only to Buchs SG (border station AT <> CH) you wont need it. No other reservations needed for the day trains; from Lake Garda to Venice I recommend to get a ticket for a regional train which is much cheaper than the Frecciabianca fast trains, especially when buying the ticket on the day.
Depending on how much time you want to spend in Prague and Brno you could for instance get a bit more out of the travel day and leave Prague early to go to Kutna Hora; spend a few hours there, then proceed to Brno in the afternoon.
Yeah, I dont think Bratislava is that interesting, one day easily is enough to visit all important stuff in the city. Prague and Vienna have much more to see in my opinion.
BTW; you can use the railcc version of bahn.de through the following link: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]

My last couple of questions then to you, Flow, as you know so much :)
- Are there lockers / somewhere to leave backpacks whilst staying in hostels?
- Anything in the cities I am planning on visit that should definitely not be missed?
- Any top tips to make the most of my journey?
Thanks once again!

Great - thank you! :)
# Berlin: If you invest in a day ticket for public transport I would take a ride with the S-Bahn (or better take a Regionalexpress train) from Zoo on the Stadtbahn line to Warschauer Straße to get a free sightseeing tour of the city. ;)
If you exit at Warschauer Straße head to the north to Friedrichshain area, one of the trendy quarters of the capital which still seems to be kind of relaxed, at least I had the impression in March.
You will also find many other main tourist spots along the Stadtbahn: Zoo, Hauptbahnhof, Friedrichstraße, Hackesche Höfe, Alexanderplatz are all close to different tourist attractions and nice quarters of the city.
# Vienna: A walk along Ringstraße will take you along most major sights; in the city (the area within Ringstraße) I would head for the area around Wollzeile first; for a nice view over the city take bus 38A to Kahlenberg/Leopoldshöhe; in the evening you could head to a Heurigen; ask at the hostel for recommendations.
# For the trip Vienna - Milan across the Swiss Alps: Ask me if you need to know anything particular! :)
Usually most hostels have lockers on the rooms, either a padlock is provided or you can rent one. To be sure, take one with you.
