Hi All,

Firstly I'd like to say well doen to all on the railcc website- its SO super informative! Keep up the good work you guys!

Myself and my friend are hoping to cover most of Baltic area and eastern europe for about 4 weeeks from 18th July to 17 AUgust. We are planning to start in Stockholm and then fly Tallin and work down from there. We like a little culture, a great party but all at a reasonable cost!! We are partial to all recommendations.
Here's the plan:

Stockholm-Tallin-Riga-Vilinius-Krakow-Slovenia-Slovakia- Sarajevo-Belgrade-Budapest

One of our aims would be to visit the Zgeit festival for a day or 2 in Hungary on the week of the 7-12 August.
We are however how to plan our route around this as we'd have another week/5 days after a 2 day visit at festival.

Here's some of our questions:
What sort of IR ticket might suit this trip as I know some of the Baltic areas dont' accept these tickets/
How much as buses in the places that don't accept IR tickets ?
What route would one recommend to faciliatate our travelling?

Many thanks!!!

Hej,

glad you like railcc, thank you! :) If you want, you can help us if you give us some feedback about your travel after you return. ;)

Depending on how much time you want to spend in the Baltics and what places you want to visit afterwards I would say that a 5in10 or 10in22 IR pass would be a good idea.
With a 5in10 you could for instance cover: Krakow - Slovenia - Slovakia - Budapest; then finish with Belgrade - Sarajevo using regular tickets (Belgrade - Sarajevo by bus as the direct train has been withdrawn).
Maybe this plan has to be adapted in order to fit the festival in - this is your job. ;)

Anyway, the 5in10 makes sense to cover these countries as you would travel several international connections for which advance fare tickets are difficult or not possible to get online. Slovenia is a bit awkward to fit in the route, however you can for instance take the night train Krakow - Vienna, then continue straightaway with the train to Ljubljana:

Then from Ljubljana to Budapest, tour around Slovakia and back to Budapest, maybe the trip to the festival also fits in this timeslot.
From Budapest to Belgrad with a regular Beograd Special ticket (15€, buy at the station in Budapest); from Warszawa to Krakow either with a regular ticket bought in Poland or you might also think about using a IR travel day to get from the Lithuanian border straight to Krakow with a change of trains in Warszawa.
