Hi.
For 28 days, you could add some more stops. :)
Your staring point with Budapest is fixed?

Think for example about:
Budapest - Belgrade - the scenic railway to Bar (Montenegro - https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/ ) - Podgorica - Dubrovnic - Split - Ploce - Mostar - Sarajevo - Zagreb - Lake Bled - to Italy (https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/)
Then via Milan to Zurich: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/milan-to-zurich
And the rest like planed.

In the area of Montenegro/Croatia you will have to use some buses, but it is inexpensive. Find details about the buses and all other connections in the railcc schedules: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

If you like the information on railcc, support us with the purchase of your official Interrail pass via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Peter :)
