Hey -
So my friend and I (both students) are planning on doing the route Krakow-Bratislava-budapest-lublijana-split-mostar-dubrovnik this summer, lasting roughly one month.
I was wondering whether we can do it cheaper than getting the interrail global pass? (£360ish) as I have heard train is not the best way to get around Croatia for example. I am very keen to make the trip as cheap as possible so any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance :)

Hi!
Yeah, a full one month IR pass would be a bit of overkill for this route. How much time do you want to spend in the different places? You could think about a 5in10 IR pass for the first bit, covering Krakow - Budapest - Bratislava - Vienna - Ljubljana (I added Vienna since it is worth seeing - or have you already been there?) - Rijkea
From Rijeka you could use the twice weekly coastal ferry at least to Split or all the way through to Dubrovnik: https://rail.cc/en/train/rijeka-to-dubrovnik
Between Split and Dubrovnik frequent buses operate: https://rail.cc/en/train/split-to-dubrovnik
To get to Mostar you can again use buses or take the scenic train line from Ploce to Mostar.

Many thanks for the advice. Will certainly look into this option and add Vienna to the trip :)

Humm...well; you could add Sarajevo and the make your way by bus through Tara Gorge to Montenegro. I dont know how you want to return to the UK but you might also add a trip to Belgrade along the scenic Bar - Belgrade railway line.

Also how much are the supplements for overnight trains? So if we bought the interrail ticket for 10 days, and decided to get an overnight train (possibly Krakow to Budapest) how much would this be? :)

You should take the passport/ID card that use used when purchasing the passes with you. Some conductor may check the passport/ID card number which is printed on the pass together with your name and country of residence.
You should also check what kind of ID is needed in the different countries you are visiting.
