Hi,

I am off to Berlin in June, spending 4 days there then activating my a 5 in 10 pass to conduct the following route –

Prague – 3 nights
Krakow – 2 nights
Budapest – 3 nights
Ljubljana – 2 nights

Then head to Zagreb for 4 days.

Is using the 5 in 10 enough? I don’t want to rush the cities! We are also aiming to get mostly night trains, are reservations needed on most? Morevoer, we are not planning on booking hostels and just seeing what happens when we are over there. Is this a good idea.

Also does anyone know how much the train would be from Ljubljana to Zagreb?

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben.
I hope you bought your Interrail pass here at railcc to support all the information on the website and as well this answer. Otherwise you should ask the company where you got your Interrail ticket from for support - as they earned the money from you and are responsible to help you. :)

For train connections and night trains have a look here:

railcc schedules (for all connections you travel): https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Night train connections: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train

You can use a night train for Prague-Krakow and Krakow-Budapest. Buy these reservations either at the stations the trains start from or as well for example in Berlin Central station: https://rail.cc/en/berlin/berlin-central-railway-station/l146

It's normal to book your hostels while you are travelling - to stay flexible. There are several booking websites...
Check as well the city details for accommodation.
Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/berlin/accommodation/c
Prague: hhttps://rail.cc/en/prague/accommodation/c
Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/budapest/accommodation/c
...

Peter :)

Hej Ben,

why would you need an extra ticket Ljubljana - Zagreb? All of your routes are covered by the 5in10:
1) Berlin - Prague; no reservation needed, if possible take a seat on the left hand side of the train to enjoy the scenic line along the Elbe river after Dresden.
2) Prague - Krakow; night train
3) Krakow - Budapest; night train
4) Budapest - Ljubljana; no reservation needed
5) Ljubljana - Zagreb; no reservation needed

BTW the direct Budapest - Ljubljana train runs via Zagreb, so unless you plan to fly back home from Zagreb you might visit Zagreb first. Another option would be to go via Vienna and spend a couple of hours there.

You do not activate Interrail. You fix the starting date of your Interrail pass at the purchase.
The 5 travel days you fill in then manually whenever you need them. :)

Thanks again for your help Flow and Peter. Unfortunatly I fly back from Zagreb, I think I may want to spend an extra day in Ljubljana as I’ve heard Zagreb can be a bit boring!

Vienna Is an option. Would I go Budpest, Vienna, Ljubljana then Zagreb? Do you know roughly how much the train is from Ljubljana to Zagreb just on the day.

Thanks,

Ben

Yeah, Budapest - Vienna - Ljubljana would be ok. You can add a day trip to Graz on the way from Vienna to Zagreb if you want.

Ljubljana - Zagreb is 16€.
