Hey guys! Looking to get to Athens from Budapest. I need to be there for the 29th of may, so I'm a bit late in booking. Have you guys got any tips of the cheapest and most effective way of getting there? I've been considering trying to get a ferry from somewhere close (maybe croatia ?), maybe that would be a better idea than a train? Maybe the cheapest alternative is an interrail card ? I'm a bit lost, so thankful for all the help I can get! Cheers!

Hi!

Budapest - Belgrade: https://rail.cc/en/train/budapest-to-belgrade Belgrade Special ticket can be bought at the station in Budapest Keleti at the international counter, 15€

Belgrade - Skopje: https://rail.cc/en/train/belgrade-to-skopje Again, buy the ticket at the station in Belgrade (I recommend the Wasteels office on the right hand side from the main exit), it will be somewhat around 25€ I think.

Skopje - Thessaloniki by bus; international trains to Greece are suspended: https://rail.cc/en/train/skopje-to-thessaloniki

Thessaloniki - Athens by train again, have a look online at rail.shop/ose for timings and fares https://rail.cc/en/train/thessaloniki-to-athens

It would be great to get some feedback from you after your trip: How it worked out, what exact price you had to pay etc...thanks. :)
