Hey again!
Just wondering if anyone has any experience in handling money in europe? I'm from the UK and my debit card will incur some pretty heavy fees abroad, so does anyone know of any cards which have low fees as I would prefer to use ATMs while abroad rather than carry a lot of cash on me, Thanks!
Chris

I will leave the debit card at home, only using it for online shopping (like train tickets ;) ). The Maestro/ V-Pay works fine!

V-Pay and Maestro are two systems for debit- cards. For example my Sparkassencard from Germany uses the V-Pay system. If i want to get money at the ATM with my card there are some fees abroad, paying at stores or at ticket machines which have their prices in euro it's free of fees. If the price is not in euro i have to pay a exchange fee. On my last interrail trip i payed at stores mostly with my debit card and i don't have to use a ATM at this time.

If you want to get money from the ATM it might be a better way to use a credit card like Mastercard or VISA. Some Banks offer credit cards with the option free money at ATM like the german DKB- Cash. I probably think that there are offers like these in the uk too.
