Hi Guys,

Been researching for weeks and getting a little overloaded. Was hoping I could find some direction here.

Me and my girlfriend are planning to travel from Split, Croatia eventually to Paris. We've planned our route with the places we want to visit. Just slightly worried about reservations and extra fees.

I've tried to find as much detail as possible and have found railcc very useful.

There are, however a few blanks in my plan that hopefully you can help me with.

We plan to take these journeys

Split - Zagreb
Zagreb - Venice
Venice - Savona
Savona - Cannes
Cannes - Paris.

I 'THINK' we will have to pay reservation fees for many of the journeys-
Split - Zagreb
Intercity EUR 1

Zagreb - Venice
Eurocity EUR 10
OBB Intercity Bus EUR 7-11

Venice - Savona??
eurostar italia??
Regional Zug??

Savona - Cannes??
Intercity??
Regional Express?

Cannes - Paris??
TGV Duplex??

I can't seem to find the prices for the last three trips.

Please can anyone help?

Also, when buying the 5 days out of 10 pass Do you have to specify the exact days of travel?

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex.

Split - Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/split-to-zagreb

Zagreb - Venice:
First Zagreb to Ljubljana, then border crossing like this: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/
More details: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/zagreb-to-venice

Venice - Savona: depends on which trains you want to use. See here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
Example of a free route for Mon-Fri:
Venezia Santa Lucia dep: 1103 - free local train
Milano Lambrate arr: 1426

Milano Lambrate dep: 1632 - free local train
Genova Piazza Principe arr: 1817

Genova Piazza Principe dep: 1900 - free local train
Savona arr: 1947

Just use an electronic schedule planer like https://rail.shop/bahn?l=en&s=Venezia&e=Savona
Play with the options All, All without ICE and only local transport.
In Italy you can usually calculate: R=0 Euro, IC=3 Euro, ES=10 Euro

Savona - Cannes: many connections daily by free local train directly to Ventimiglia, then by an other French free local train to Cannes.

Cannes - Paris: I recommend the direct overnight train - seat from EUR 6 - https://rail.cc/en/night-train/nice-paris-icn-5774/60

If you travel with the 5 in 10 Interrail pass, you have to select the starting date at the purchase. But the travel days you fill in manually whenever you need them.

Finally: please buy your official Interrail pass via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] to support this answer and all the information on railcc. Thank you! :)

Peter :)

Hi!

Just to add to the things Peter already explained.

Zagreb - Venice: Where did you find the info about the EC reservation being 10€? You do not need a reservation there...the IC Bus would be 9€.
If you want to save money, take the route Peter suggested.

Venice - Savona: From Venice to Milano run at least hourly Frecciabianca high speed trains, 10€ compulsory reservation. Anyway, they are not much faster than the regional trains so if it fits your schedule I would go with the connection recommended by Peter.
Eurostar Italia train classification does not exist anymore.

From Cannes to Paris by TGV: Standard reservation price is 6€ although there is a only a very small contingent available at this price, if all seats are sold a reservation then costs 18€! Same applies to the night train now, sadly...
