I am thinking of going from Budapest to venice but don't know what journey to take along the way. I would like to see lake bled and maybe lake Balaton with a possibility of getting the night train to split. Has anyone any ideas on what to do, or has anyone done this journey themselves? Ant help would be appreciated thanks.

Hej,

you can do this in several steps: Budapest - Lake Balaton - Bled - Venezia

There are frequent trains from Budapest to the villages around Lake Balaton, the whole lake is surrounded by railway lines. The main line is on the south shore, and the international train to Zagreb and Ljubljana stops in Siofok and Fonyod: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/budapest-to-ljubljana
The problem is that you arrive rather late in Ljubljana so I would recommend to stay there overnight. You still could continue to Bled, but since the stations at Bled (you would arrive at Lesce Bled :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/zagreb-munich-en-498/152 ) are quite a bit away from the centre it is more convenient to stay at Ljubljana.
From Bled to Venice use the scenic Bohinj Railway to Nova Gorica (trains leave from Bled Jezero station), then continue as described here: :arr: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/
