Hi guys - i noticed that you've marked the Athens-Thessaloniki train as extra fees on the train connection page. But when i check the eurail official website its saying i can book class A tickets with no extra charge if i hold a eurail pass.
https://rail.cc/en/athens-thessaloniki/greece/701
I cant reserve a seat on the greece train website (cant find the reservation part... looks like i can only buy a new ticket) so I'm not sure who's right, but want to point it out in case you had a typo here.
(btw i can just reserve them at the train station right?)

Hi.
You can only book point to point tickets in Greece online (rail.shop/ose), not reservations only. You will have to buy the at the station directly.
By the way: there is no international train connection from/to Greece since now two/three years. You will have to use a bus for which you have to pay extra. For example this one: https://rail.cc/en/train/plovdiv-to-thessaloniki
And if you want to support the information here on railcc, buy your official Eurail pass in our partner. Thank you.
Peter :)

Hi!
I tried to do some research but information is really sparse...what I believe is the current situation: No ICE services anymore, only IC services remain.
These do not require a reservation but only a supplement - however I am not sure if this applies to InterRail only or Eurail as well...I tried to get in touch with TrainOSE, let's see if they respond.
Otherwise we are always happy about first hand experiences from travellers so if you could give us a short report of your trip afterwards that would be great! ;)

So no more international trains anymore from Greece?
I do remember being in Athens, 15 years ago that is, and I was about to go to Istanbul but said to me that doing customs was kinda difficult and trains stopped at the border which had to be crossed on foot. I took a cruise through the Cyclades instead.
Another harsh trip was to cross through the former Yugoslavia by train. Greece was making it very difficult with former Macedonia and connections were a PITA. Seems it has not improved

Hi.
The problem is the economical situation of Greece.
Currently you cross the borders by bus to Istanbul or to Bulgaria: Plovdiv and Sofia.

Hi.
Thanks for this update. So you had to buy a free reservation or you just could sit down in the train?
