Hi Guys
I have booked a number of night trains sleepers (generally with en suite shower and WC) and note that usually a breakfast is included. On some of these trips I will be getting off the train before it reaches its final station (eg leaving the CNL 484 Rome Termini dep 21:03 [which runs through to Munich where my booked reservation would take me] at Kufstein arr 05:27 in order to catch a train to Vienna. ;)
If I let him know of my intentions, will the conductor wake me in time for me to shower and dress before the train reaches Kufstein or will I need to rely on my alarm clock? :)
In these cases will an early breakfast be available on the train (on request) or will I just have to look out for my own food at Kufstein (18 minutes transfer time) or Vienna at 9:24? :|
Also because I have used the railcc/DBahn booking site and therefore have chosen to either join or leave the train at a German station, would the booked sleeper cabin be available at the commencement of the trip or at the end if these places are outside Germany and are not included in my reservation if I decide to alter my trip accordingly? I presume that the booked sleeper cabin is not used by anyone else before or after I get on or off the train!
Are there buffet or lounge cars in which I could meet and talk to other passengers or will I just have to leave my sleeper door open until bedtime? :D
Finally, how soon after a train arriving at its final destination would I have to get off? Is there any time available (eg after the arrival of CNL 418 in Amsterdam Centraal at 08:56 ) just to sit and organise things for the day ahead?
Cheers :D

Hej Richard!
First, I wonder why you travel Roma - Vienna via Kufstein and not with the direct night train (which has quite a nice Deluxe compartment as well? Is it due to reservation issues? I think that you can get an online reservation for this train at Trenitalia website...would need to check.
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/rome-vienna-en-234/93
It should be no problem to ask the conductor to wake you in time to leave the train at Kufstein. He will also pack your breakfast in case you want to eat it later on the train to Vienna (however I would recommend to eat the Henry Breakfast in the Railjet Restaurant...although the breakfast in CNL Deluxe category is quite nice as well).
So you dont need to worry about breakfast: You will be supplied with this CNL Deluxe breakfast :arr: http://www.citynightline.de/citynightline/view/en/service/waehrend-der-reise/fruehstueck_en.shtml plus have the option of an extra breakfast on board the Railjet :arr: http://www.henryamzug.com/docs/HENRYAMZUG_Restaurant_Men%C3%BCkarte.pdf
If you have booked your cabin overnight, there will no one else in your compartment before or after during the short stretches...reservations are only sold for overnight travellers.
Just explain the issue with the online reservations to the conductor and you will be fine entering your cabin when you board.
I have been in contact with CNL lately discussing this issue and they told be that it is all fine as long as you have a valid ticket for the route you want to travel (which you have) plus a reservation...however I havent yet been sucessful at getting to the right person to ask whether the reservation system will be updated in the future... ;)
On some night trains there are buffet/lounge cars, yes. If you want, I can have a look which trains have one?
Usually you have to get off the train within a few minutes of its arrival at the destination station. A few exceptions are for instance the Malmö - Stockholm and vice versa trains that arrive really early (around 0530 or so) and can be occupied until 0700; or some night trains in the UK.
However this applies to early departures only, in Amsterdam I am sure the train wont stand long at the platform after arrival - but you can always ask the staff how much time exactly you have at each station.

Hej Flo
Thank you for all the helpful information and hints. I could of course just travel without knowing the minor details of what is likely to happen, and just be surprised when things do happen. But I am/was an Architect and (Town) Planner and like to become involved in the details, so thank you for your patience! :D
The answer to your first question in reply: I was going to travel Roma - Vienna via Kufstein and not with the direct night train because in my enthusiasm to use the railcc/DBahn on-line shop (which makes booking so easy) I completely overlooked the direct OBB route! :o
But now having checked on the railcc/Trenitalia website it does not appear to want to let me make such a reservation. I am not sure whether this is a permanent situation or whether it is just a temporary glitch.
If I could do so I would and would bear the cancellation cost of the CNL Rome-Munich reservation booking.
If I can't I will enjoy the trip via Kufstein and look forward to the Henry Breakfast in the Railjet Restaurant! :D
So perhaps I will take with me the packed CNL Deluxe breakfast and eat it for lunch :D :D
I would appreciate your advice about which night trains have buffet/lounge cars, although once again I could just work it out as I go along!
With respect to the Stockholm-Malmo night train (21.05.13 NZ 1 Stockholm dep 21:25 to Malmo Central arr 05:37 [next day]) I have been told that In the morning, breakfast is included at one of the selected breakfast eateries at the destination. If you disembark the train before 6 am, speak to a member of staff on the train to get a voucher in lieu of breakfast. I am not sure of my source for this info, whether it is on railcc or some where else! ;) I will give it a try.
It's now only four weeks until departure date. Things are getting quite exciting! 8)
Cheers

Hej Flo
Just an update.
In trying to book on the Rome to Vienna night train I am told that for the night train section from Venice to Vienna the single sleepers are no longer available. :( I only wanted to book the trip from Rome to Vienna if I could get a single ensuite sleeper with my Eurail Global Pass for the whole journey. The train would leave Venice at 01:30 so and if I could only get a reclining seat or a couchette I am not sure that i would get a proper sleep!
So back to Plan A! ;)
All bookings for Eurail Pass now complete. Only the Balkans to sort out once I arrive in Bucharest. :D
Cheers

OK...well, plan A is fine as well, right? :)
I have an update as well: The catering company of ÖBB changed their menu and the Henry Breakfast is no longer available... :(
Sorry I couldnt get back earlier, I was on the rails myself last week... ;)
I dont know how it works with the breakfast on the night train to Stockholm; we have been using seated accomodation only on our trip in 2010 (Malmö - Stockholm and Stockholm - Östersund night trains) where no breakfast is included.
