Hi Guys,

A friend and I are going to Paris by Eurostar ([ux]https://rail.shop/beurope[/ux]) and from there we are interrailing all the way for the first time!
I think ideally we would want to stay in Western Europe as we are only going for 12 days and need to be back in Paris for our return train. The only place we both want to visit is Rome other than that we're free as a bird. We don't really want to be forking out much other than we have to for reservations and I am worried that it is going to end up out pricing the Interrail ticket. I was just wondering if anybody had any suggestions. Thanks a lot I know this is my first post but I hope one day I will be able to benefit from the experiences I have had.

Again thanks so much,
Gareth

Hi Gareth!

Well, you should then go with a 5in10 ticket. :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-global-pass If you purchase directly at our partner at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] you directly support our work and all the infos you get on our site - no extra costs for you and free delivery to the UK. :)

With a 5in10 several routes are possible, for instance:

Paris - Marseille
Marseille - Rome
Rome - Florence
Florence - Someplace in Switzerland
Switzerland - Paris with a day trip to maybe Lyon or Strasbourg,...

Paris - Petit Train Jaune - Barcelona :arr: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/
Barcelona - Marseille
Marseille - Rome
Rome - Switzerland
Switzerland - Paris

Hi there,
I haven't been before but I'm planning my first trip too, we are going for a little longer through.

https://rail.cc/en/night-train

That is the rail dude info on night trains, cheaper than hostels and you don't waste a precious day on a train! Just hop on at night and get there in the morning, you do have to pay a little bit but only about 11 euros if you are happy to sleep in a seat.

What we have effectively done is plan our trip by where we can get night trains to and from. For example from Paris you could go on a night train straight to Rome and then work from there. Be careful though because some journeys from Paris to Italy are not covered by the Interrail pass.

good luck,
Fern

I also forgot you don't have to get the eurostar back from Paris, you can also go from Brussels and other places and it doesn't cost any more!

Note: the night trains from Paris to Rome/Milan/Venice are not covered by Interrail.
There is currently no ¨free¨ night train option from France to Italy for Interrailers.
