Hi all,

I wonder if someone can offer some advice.

We are buying an InterRail tickets (Global Flexipass) and are currently booking reservations for all of our journeys.

We have two night trains which we will need to make reservations on but for other connections, particularly for shorter journeys, I can't help but feel that we might be able to get away without making reservations, therefore saving some money!

These journeys are;

Roma Termini to Venice Mestre (9:55 - 13:23)
Wein Westbf to Budapest Keleti (9:48 - 12:49)
Budapest Keleti to Wein Meidling (9:10 - 11:56)

Has anyone had any experience on these connections? Are these busy or would we be able to get a seat without making a reservation?

Thanks,

Hi,
the reservation for AV from Rome to Venice is not an optional reservation. It is required. The train conductor will check your reservation. Otherwise you have to leave the train or buy a reservation on board, if it's possible. I don't know what will happen, but the last time I travelled in Italy and reservation was required, the conductor asked for it.

Vienna - Budapest isn't required. So you can buy one, but you don't have to :) the same is applied to the return.

Hi.
The reservation Rome-Venice is available in the railcc shop ([ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux]) or at Trenitalia online (book Global Pass option) or ticket machines at stations.
But you can travel this route as well for free - see here: https://rail.cc/en/train/rome-to-venice
Or with an IC train (only EUR 3).

Wien - Budapest: like NatureOne already wrote - free Railjet trains. If you avoid peak travel days like Friday and Sunday afternoon/evening, you will get a seat. I travel this route very frequently - there are always a lot of travellers in the train, but if you are some minutes before departure at the train, it is easy to find a free seat. That's the way I do it - I never reserved on this route.

Please support railcc:
- buy your rail passes and tickets here on the recommended website: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
- add locations of your home-town (bars, nice places, ...)
Thank you! :)

Peter :)

Hi,

Just wanted to double check. On the Wein to Keleti train I haven't made any reservation do I just show my interrail global pass to te conductor? Will I get charged an additional fee on the train?

Regards,

Will

Hi Will.
Enter the train Vienne to Budapest, take a free seat (reserved seats are marked) and show the train staff your Interrail pass - that's it. FREE and NO extra fees! :)
