Hi,
After some touring round France and Italy I will be winding up in Venice.
I have heard that the train route from Venice to Innsbruck via Verona is great, is this true?
If so, I would like to take this route, and then head onto my next destination (Vienna) - I am assuming this is feasible via a day trip in Munich.

Then

Leaving around 3 hours in Munich.
There is a more direct route from Venice to Vienna I believe - is this longer route worth it?
Thanks
A first time interrailer :)

Hi!
The route from Verona to Innsbruck is the Brennerbahn (have a look for pics on the web). In my opinion it is not as scenic as other Alpine railways (partly due to the fact that Brenner Pass is the lowest Alpine crossing) but certainly worth a trip, especially combined with a stopover in Munich.
If you choose to go this way, you might think about travelling to Verona by regional trains to save the 10€ reservation for the Frecciabianca, I edited the connection accordingly: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/venice-to-munich
The direct way to Vienna would be via Villach: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/venice-to-vienna
You can travel this route for free if you use the evening connection, otherwise you have to get a reservation for the Intercity Bus to Villach, from where you can continue with domestic ÖBB trains without reservations. Maybe it would be interesting to visit Salzburg instead of Munich: Go to Villach first (by IC Bus), then change to a train to Salzburg via Tauernbahn - another scenic route through the Austrian Alps. From Salzburg you have frequent connections to Vienna (fastest 2h22).
