I am struggling to find an easy connection from Amsterdam To Paris without paying for the Thalys train, so far the quickest i have found is:

Amsterdam Centraal Fr, 12.07.13 dep 07:55 FYR 918 FYRA
Rotterdam Centraal Fr, 12.07.13 arr 08:36
 Transfer time 4 min.
Rotterdam Centraal Fr, 12.07.13 dep 08:40 IC 2616 Intercity
Roosendaal Fr, 12.07.13 arr 09:18
 Transfer time 4 min.
Roosendaal Fr, 12.07.13 dep 09:22 2580 Regionalzug
Antwerpen Centraal Fr, 12.07.13 arr 10:10
 Transfer time 42 min.
Antwerpen Centraal Fr, 12.07.13 dep 10:52 IC 710 Intercity
Kortrijk Fr, 12.07.13 arr 12:12
 Transfer time 7 min.
Kortrijk Fr, 12.07.13 dep 12:19 IC 19816 Intercity
Lille Flandres Fr, 12.07.13 arr 12:50
transfer time 83 min
Lille Europe Fr, 12.07.13 dep 14:13 TGV 7254 TGV
Paris Nord Fr, 12.07.13 arr 15:14

Has anyone come accross an easier route recently?

Hi!

Avoid the FYRA train to Rotterdam, it requires a supplement: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/fyra-netherlands/ns-fy/144 Frequent (4 trains per hour) IC trains run on the classic (not the high speed) line via Den Haag, taking about 30 minutes more than the FYRA trains.

From Rotterdam, there are two hourly direct IC to Bruxelles leaving at 0755, 0955,...however I think you dont get your connection at Antwerpen then... Otherwise the option with a change of trains in Roosendaal is fine as well and it would leave you with enough time to marvel at the magnificent Antwerpen Centraal station. ;)

The rest looks fine. If you want to save money on the Lille - Paris TGV, travel by regular trains via Amiens. The problem probably will be to get your TGV reservation: In the Netherlands, NS Hispeed counters which sell these at the bigger stations charge a ridiculously high booking fee (10€ or so)...so you'd better try to get the TGV reservation in Belgium. However by doing so on the day of travelling you'd risk that all seats for InterRailers are already sold...and SNCF charging the higher reservation fee of 18€... :(

Roosendaal Fr, 12.07.13 dep 09:22 2580 Regionalzug
Antwerpen Centraal Fr, 12.07.13 arr 10:10
Transfer time 42 min.
Antwerpen Centraal Fr, 12.07.13 dep 10:52 IC 710 Intercity
Kortrijk Fr, 12.07.13 arr 12:12
 Transfer time 7 min.
Kortrijk Fr, 12.07.13 dep 12:19 IC 19816 Intercity
Lille Flandres Fr, 12.07.13 arr 12:50

Lille Flandres Fr, 12.07.13 dep 13:02 RE 43910 Regional-Express
Amiens Fr, 12.07.13 arr 14:21

Amiens Fr, 12.07.13 dep 15:14 RE 48522 Regional-Express

Humm...are your plans still the same? :arr: https://rail.cc/en/le-havre-porto-madrid-rome-venice-vienna/f9241

Seems you dont have much time left for Paris then...but well, I wouldnt spend the money on the Thalys, 39€ is just too much!
If you try to get the night train Copenhagen - Amsterdam (due to the 1900-rule not working from Copenhagen here you might need to get an extra ticket to Roskilde) :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/amsterdam-copenhagen-cnl40457/10 you could spend the following day in Amsterdam, stay overnight, then travel to Paris during day making a longer stop on the way for instance in Antwerpen and would have still a full day in Paris if I'm not mistaken?

Yes the plan is still the same as that though I have just found the 2:45 train trip back to Le Havre on the Sat has suddenly become a 5:30 train trip, going to have to look into that. I had played with the idea of a night train from Copenhagen then if it exists a night train from Amsterdam to Paris, or maybe travelling late at night. When I first put the plan together Bahn.com wouldn't let me look far enough ahead, now it does I can plan with the actual dates I am travelling.

Humm...well you could travel from Amsterdam to Basel, then with TGV Lyria to Paris, but is is quite expensiv (although you save on accomodation costs):

And how much it costs Thalys for that day?, I checked the webpage and is not possible to see prices beyond July 3rd.
Anyway, arround that date, you have tkts from €35 from Rotterdam, I guess that should be more or less €40 too from Amsterdam (and half of the time)

Hi.

Point to point tickets for THALYS from Amsterdam to Paris start from EUR 35 (only limited seats - calculate with EUR 65-80). Pre-booking time is up to three months (that's why you can't see tickets later than 3rd July!). Online booking via this link if you want to support railcc: [ux]https://rail.shop/beurope[/ux]

Rail Pass (Interrail OR Eurail): if you have a valid rail pass, you can travel the route Amsterdam to Paris for FREE! It is slower than the direct Thalys train, but it is free!
If you want to use the Thalys train (what the railccs do not recommend for rail pass travellers), then you have to pay a reservation fee of EUR 39: https://rail.cc/en-type-country/thalys/thalys-thy/41

 Schedules for Amsterdam - Paris (might change a little bit due to the FYRA train problems): https://rail.cc/en/train/amsterdam-to-paris

Peter :)
