We've almost planned our route but we've just noticed that we still have a travel day to use. We're both pretty keen to add in Sarajevo between Belgrade & Zagreb but I'm having trouble finding out to get there? Am I right in thinking there's no longer a train from Belgrade, how else could we do it? If it's going to take heaps of time is it worth it or can you recommend somewhere better to go on our route. Hi.
Please post your route here in the forum and not as external link. Thank you.

Sorry, I've posted that link before here and had no problem and thought it was an easier way to see it (it's just a google map) but we're going:

Berlin → Wroclaw → Warsaw → Krakow → Vienna → Budapest → Belgrade → Zagreb → Ljubjlana → Munich → Prague

We'd ideally like to go to Sarajevo between Belgrade & Zagreb, but so far the only way we've found to get there by train so far is to go to Zagreb first which we don't really want to waste time doing. So if it's not possible to get there easily we're planning on spending a night in Bratislava between Vienna & Budapest (and maybe getting the boat there depending on prices). Unless anyone has a better suggestion of where to go. We don't want to go to Lake Bled or anywhere in Austria/Italy/Switzerland as we're trying to stick to relatively cheap places, unless they're really really amazing.

I rode the bus between Sarajevo and Zagreb once, as the train connection was poor. I wonder what it was like before the Balkan wars..

I read somewhere that they used homemade armoured trains during the wars.

Hi.
The direct train Belgrade to Sarajevo was withdrawn in December 2013.
Sadly only bus connections left. One-way is about EUR 20.

Note: there are two bus station in Sarajevo: https://rail.cc/en/sarajevo/station/c

One daily connection from Belgrade to Sarajevo CENTRAL bus station (https://rail.cc/en/sarajevo/station/c) which is just beside the central railway station.

Five daily (incl. one overnight connection) from Belgrade to Sarajevo Istocno Lukavica (https://rail.cc/en/sarajevo/lukavica-istocno-sarajevo-bus-station/l3617) bus station which is about 30 minutes by trolley bus outside of Sarajevo central.

Schedules Belgrade - Sarajevo: https://rail.cc/en/train/belgrade-to-sarajevo

So you could travel Belgrade to Sarajevo by bus. And from Sarajevo to Zagreb by train: https://rail.cc/en/train/sarajevo-to-zagreb
It is also nice to make a trip from Sarajevo to Mostar.

Peter :)
