Help! I wish to travel on hurtigruten from Bergen to a stop closest to Narvik and transfer (preferably by train - or ferry) to Narvik in order to take the train to Stockholm. Does the train go from Narvik to Stockholm during the summer? What is the best way to link up with this train with a minimum of surface transportation? Can I use my Scandinavia eurail pass for any portion of this trip? Thank you for any help you can provide!

Hi.
Yes, the train Narvik-Stockholm runs every day of the year.
Schedules and information here: https://rail.cc/en/train/narvik-to-stockholm
The Eurail Scandinavia pass is valid for Norway, Sweden and Finland. So it is valid in this train:
https://rail.cc/en/eurail-select-pass
But if you want to see more of the nature of Scandinavia, include the Inlandsbanan on your way from Narvik To Stockholm.
Blog report with photos and travel information: https://rail.cc/en/inlandsbanan
Narvik to Gällivare, stay there overnight. Next day by Inlandsbanan to Östersund: https://rail.cc/en/train/gaellivare-to-oestersund
There you change in the direct night train to Stockholm: https://rail.cc/en/train/oestersund-to-stockholm
So it is ONE more day of travel in total, but you will see the amazing nature there! Don't miss it! :)
And if you like the information here on railcc, buy your Eurail pass on the recommended website to support us. Thank you!
Peter :)

Peter, please forgive my confusion, but you mention a bus from Svolvaer to Narvik, while the link you provide shows a train schedule. Can I pay for whichever means of transportation is available with my Scandinavia Eurail pass? How far is the dock from the bus/train station in Svolvaer? Is there a hostel nearby?
Is there bus or train transportation available from Harstad to Narvik?
Does a Eurail pass also include discounts for intracity train/bus travel such as in Stockholm and/or Helsinki?
I apologize for being totally unfamiliar with the Eurail pass and European train schedules. This will be my first (but, hopefully, not my last) experience traveling Europe by rail. Thank you in advance for any additional information or assistance you can provide.
Sincerely,
Steve Toggerson

Hi Steve.
Svolvær to Narvik is a BUS: just click on the details of the schedules (https://rail.cc/en/train/svolvaer-to-narvik) and you will see, it's a BUS (https://rail.cc/en/interrail-bus/svolvaer-narvik/19).
railcc is a website for rail travel, therefore we usually list only TRAINS - but if there are no trains on a special connection, we also list buses. :)
Hurtigruten ferry terminal and bus station Svolvær: https://rail.cc/en/svolvaer/station/c
It is a short walk of 2 minutes.
Svolvær accommodation: use the booking links here if you want to support railcc: https://rail.cc/en/svolvaer/accommodation/c
Harstad - Narvik: bus station and ferry terminal in Harstad here: https://rail.cc/en/harstad/c
Bus connection Harstad - Narvik here: www.tromskortet.no
Stockholm - Helsinki: there are discounts available for Eurail/Interrail pass travellers. The cheaper route is Stockholm-Turku and then by train to Helsinki. Details here: https://rail.cc/en/stockholm/ferry/c
You are always welcome on railcc to find help. That's why we run this website. :)
But please support us as well with the purchase of train tickets/rail passes in our partner to keep the website running. Thank you.

We are prepared to purchase our Regional Saver Pass from railcc and make reservations for our train travel. However, I have several questions before my purchase.
(1) It is correct that our Eurail Pass can be purchased up to 6 months in advance of use?
(2) Is it also true that reservations for specific travel dates can /should be purchased no sooner than 3 months in advance as I believe I saw on your website? We plan to travel on July 31st to Stockholm.
(3) Are there really 2 trains departing each day from Narvik for Stockholm - one at 10:15 and one at 11:35?
(4) Since these are night trains, am I correct to assume that these departure times are NOT given using a 24 hour clock?
(5) When I make my reservations, must I provide proof of Eurail pass?
(6) Am I charged the supplement at the time I make my purchase or when I arrive at the station?
(7) How far in advance of departure should one arrive at the station if reservations have been made?
Thank you for any help you can provide!

Hi Steve.
Here the answers..... :)
1) You can buy the Eurail pass up to 6 month before you activate it. So you can buy it today and activate it on the 31st July in Stockholm Central Station: https://rail.cc/en/stockholm/stockholm-central-railway-station/l79
2) The maximum pre-booking time for reservations is usually 3 months, sometimes on 2 or 1 month. Depends on the country and railway company. But 3 months is the general value. So you still have to wait a little bit before you can buy reservations of August.
3) Yes. There are two trains in summer. One with change in Boden (Sweden), the other one is a direct one down to Stockholm. We are just waiting for the final times and update it the next days - but you can count on the given times (minimal changes only like every year).
4) All times on railcc are in the 24h-system like it is standard in Europe. It is a very long distance you travel, so even being a night train, it can leave already in the morning. You have also overnight trains running for 2 or 3 days - even longer in Russia.
You don't have to be in a bed the whole trip. During the day the beds become seats - and at night, the staff change it to beds.
5) No. If you make an online reservation for Eurail travellers, no Eurail pass is required. But while travelling with your Eurail-reservation you need of course the Eurail pass with you.
6) You are charged at the time when you purchase your reservation - because at this moment you block the seat/bed in the train and no other traveller can book it anymore.
7) At some countries there are luggage checks... in Spain for example or the train from Paris to London... in Scandinavia it is okay if you arrive two minutes before departure - of course I recommend a bit more time to find your car with your reservation. 15 minutes is a good value.
I hope these answers will help you. Thank you for supporting all the information here on railcc with your purchase of your official Eurail pass in the railcc shop: [ux]https://rail.shop/eurail[/ux]

Is it still too soon to make reservations for train travel from Narvik to Stockholm on August 1? I did not see any sleeper cars available when I tried to book on your site. Does that mean that there aren't any, that they are all taken, or they are not yet available?
Can I purchase a ticket/reservation now and then upgrade to a sleeper car later?
May I purchase my ticket and my Scandinavia pass at the same time on railcc or are they separate purchases (and separate shipping charges)?
Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.
Sincerely,
Steve Toggerson

Hello Steve.
Have a look at the reservation tool here:
[ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux]
There you should find as well the sleepers (example: Wc Slp 2B).
Slp always means Sleeper.
It is not possible to upgrade in the train at least the official way.
If you have a friendly conductor in the sleeper wagon and there are still free beds/compartments available, it should be possible. To be sure, buy now, what you want to have.
And yes, it is possible to make the booking in once - that's as well what I personally recommend, to save on shipping fees.
Just make the booking for the night train via the link above.
Put it in your basket, then go back (top left corner Destinations) and select the Eurail Scandinavia Pass. Or just click here:
https://rail.cc/en/search-train-route#/pass/eurail_scandinavia/
Have a sunny Sunday and best regards, Peter

2 weeks ago I followed your advice and purchased 2 Eurail Scandinavia saver passes for 4 days along with reservations for a 2 bed sleeper on the train from Narvik to Stockholm departing on August 1st. My credit card shows this charge is still pending. I have received no confirmation of my order nor was I provided a confirmation number. Please help!
I am concerned that as each day passes, my chances of booking a 2 bed sleeper for my husband and myself on Aug. 1st diminishes! If you are unable to fill this order, please refund my money so that I can attempt to purchase the tickets (and the Scandinavia pass) from another source. I'm counting on you, railcc! Please come through for me!
Sincerely,
Steve Toggerson

Peter, I have not seen an e-mail from you. However, after having a problem booking another portion of my trip, I contacted my credit card issuer who said they had put a hold on my credit card due to an unusual number of charges in Scandinavia. Obviously, they had not received the message we had sent them prior to making such charges that they should expect such activity on our card.
We never received a message from you indicating there was such a problem with our card and the charge is still shown as pending. However, if the reason for the delay is due to the problem mentioned above, that has been remedied on our end and the charge SHOULD go through. Please let me know if there are any further steps I must take in order to process this order. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide in this matter.
