Hey guys!
Me and 6 more friends will be doing our first Interrail this Summer, throughout Western Europe.
However, we've had some trouble deciding what cities to cut off the map, as we can only visit 10 (Geneve doesn't count as we'll get to it by plane), since we are getting the 10 trips throughout 22 days ticket.
We planned the following:
Lisbon - Geneve (plane) 1--> Bern or Zurich? 2--> Munique (Dachau) 3--> Salzburg 4--> Viena 5---> Prague 6--> Budapest 7--->Krakow (Auschwitz) 8---> Warsaw 9--->Berlin 10--->Copenhagen 11---> Amsterdam 12--->Brussels (Bruges) 13--->Geneve
What is between parentheses is a place we would visit while staying at the city that is outside the parentheses. We'll stay three nights at Berlin, while 2 nights in every other city.
As you can see, there are 13 trips, rather than 10.
First of all, we don't know which to choose between Bern or Zurich, what's your opinion? (Best for landscape and photography?)
And now, which three would you take out? We've thought of taking out Warsaw for sure, as we have been told there are other more interesting. We are thinking of also taking out Copenhagem, as it seems out of scope from Western Europe. And well, what else...Brussels? We really don't know what to take out, as we have never visited Western Europe.
The following image gives an idea of the proposed route (http://i46.tinypic.com/vziz46.png):
Image to large and removed. Sorry. But I think it is clear your route you listed above.
We are willing to travel long trips to visit awesome places, rather than changing awesome places to cool places only because they are closer to the general route.
Thanks for the help, guys!

Uhm, in my opinion Zurich is nicer than Bern, because of the lake. On the other hand Zurich is more expensive. But I think, I would go to Zurich, instead of Bern. For Warsaw and Brussels, I don`t know, if they are worth a visit, never been there.

Hej Juan,
this is how I would travel on this route (x are travel days):
1x Geneve - stopover in Bern - Zürich
2x Zürich - München (in the evening)
3 München
4 München (day trip to Dachau with regular tickets)
5x München - stopover in Salzburg - Wien
6 Wien
7 Wien and night train to Warszawa
8x Warszawa, then to Krakow in the evening
9 Krakow and day trip to Oswiecim/Auschwitz
10 Krakow and night train to Budapest
11x Budapest
12 Budapest and night train to Praha
13x Praha
14 Praha
15x Praha - Berlin (possible stopover at Dresden)
16 Berlin
17 Berlin and night train to Amsterdam
18x Amsterdam and maybe day trip to Delft/Rotterdam/Den Haag,...
19 Amsterdam
20x Amsterdam - stopover in Antwerpen/Gent/Bruxelles/Brugge - on to any of the other cities
21 Antwerpen/Gent/Bruxelles/Brugge
22x Antwerpen/Gent/Bruxelles/Brugge - Geneve
I did not manage to fit Kobenhavn in...but in my opinion that's ok. ;)
I have planned with quite a few night trains, however this might be an issue for you as you are travelling as a group of seven and should get reservations quite a few days in advance. This is of importance especially on the night train Berlin - Amsterdam (if you dont get reservations travel the following day with a regular IC train instead), but try to get reservations for the other night trains as soon as possible as well...depending also on how flexible you want to stay during your trip. But with such a big group planning ahead is quite sensible.
