hi peter,
dont know whether you remember us but we are back ad getting ready for INTERRAIL PART 3 BITCHESSSSSSSSSSSSSS. (we arent gonna leave til we are old and cant cope). we are going back to croatia and were wondering how much it would cost and how long it would take to get from split to plitvice . we are planning to go to plitvice, then split and the islands so do you reckon it would be worth getting an interrail pass for the one country or not.

I`m planning to go to Croatia as well, in september, and I got the advice to not get an interrail ticket, as fares for trains are cheap, down there, and along the coast there are only a few train lines, the rest is served by busses.
Even with an interrail ticket, you`d have to pay for the busses, but the fares are also cheap. Maybe you can get a special fare to get to Croatia, and back home.

Hi Tanya.
How could I forget you - and yes, still interrailing like a pro. ;)
So it really depends on your route, but I would do your trip by bus and point to point tickets for trains (HŽ - https://rail.cc/en/plitvice-lakes/plitvice-lakes-entrance-1/l3301
Zagreb
Additional information from/to Zagreb if required:
Journey time: 2:20 h. Price: less than EUR 15, one-way.
Zagreb - Plitvice Lakes: https://rail.cc/en/train/zagreb-to-plitvice-lakes
Plitvice Lakes - Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/train/plitvice-lakes-to-zagreb
More schedules at the bus station of Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/zagreb/zagreb-bus-station/l3302 / http://www.akz.hr
And now you own me some beer. Have fun in Croatia. Peter :)

hi peteyboy,
sorry for being such a nuisance (yes we will defs buy you many many beers).
our plan is , london-wasaw (flying), then trains warsaw-krakow-lbjubjana-split-the islands-split and then fly home again. do you reckon we get an interrail pass (5 in 10 day)
ps we are no longer going to plitvice as there are only 3 hotels there, no hostels and it seems quite expensive. in your expert opinion would you reccommend a day trip?
take care

Hey ...
If you want to spent the money for a day trip to Plitvice Lakes, do it.
But calculate two times the bus (total ~ EUR 30) and the entrance fee (which I forgot).
Or visit the park on your way from Zagreb to Split.
For the rest of your route, you could use an Interrail 5 in 10 (depends on your final route to Croatia).
Krakow-Ljubljana is a big trip. So maybe have a stop in between... Budapest (like it!), Lake Balaton or Vienna for example.
Instead of Plitvice Lakes you can also have a stop in Bled (Lake Bled, Slovenia - close to Ljubljana): https://rail.cc/en/bled/c
Then with the 5 in 10
(1) Warsaw - Krakow
(2) Krakow - Budapest/Vienna/Lake Balaton/Munich
(3) One of these places - Lake Bled
Lake Bled - Ljubljana (by point to point ticket - less than EUR 10)
(4) Ljubljana - Zagreb
(5) Zagreb - Split
And the rest of your trip by bus. These are just some thoughts. And if you have your final idea where to go and where not, we can also calculate it if single tickets are a better value than Interrail - often the case in Eastern-Europe.
Peter :)
