Okay, so I am from Norway (Oslo) and I am trying to plan a interrail route with a 1 month pass. I was thinking to either take a airplane to Barcelona and work myself up through Europe and back to Oslo, or work myself down Europe and take a airplane from Barcelona to Oslo.

1) I would like to stop somewhere for 2-3 days and just relax at the beach, where would you recommend me to do this?
2) Do you recommend me to skip any of the cities below or add some cities?
3) Where on the route should I take a night train?

A little about me: I do not like art and museums, but I love architecture, palaces, castles, churches.

Current route:
Barcelona (with airplane)
Marseille
Cannes
Nice
Monaco
Piza + Firenze
Venezia
Ljubljana
Zagreb
Split
Mostar
Belgrad
Budapest
Bratislava
Wien
Praha
Berlin
Copenhagen
Oslo

Hi,
I've never been to Croatia, but I think this is a good option to relax and have a few days off. So maybe you think of a place near Split or maybe you have a stay at Budva (Montenegro - I'll explain later). 19 cities sounds a lot, but as you mentioned, you can add night trains. You also like to visit cities, which are close to each other. Maybe you can leave Bratislava, Marseille or Ljubljana, but it's up to you :)

3) Night trains are great :)
So you have different options:
- Copenhagen - Prague (https://rail.cc/en/night-train/copenhagen-prague-cnl-50473/193) , go back to Berlin.
- Berlin - Vienna ( https://rail.cc/en/night-train/berlin-vienna-en-40477/46 )
- Malmö - Berlin ( https://rail.cc/en/night-train/malmoe-berlin-en-301/57 )
- Budapest - Belgrade ( https://rail.cc/en/night-train/budapest-belgrade-g-341/207 )

You can add Bar or Budva (Montenegro). So you can use this night train ( https://rail.cc/en/night-train/belgrade-bar-b-433/144 )
But from there you have to use a bus. From Budva you can go to Dubrovnik (Croatia). Further you can go to Ploce, where you can get a train to Mostar. I this option you may skip Split... or you go further to Split and skip Mostar.

But you can for sure take the night train to Belgrade, futher to Sarajevo - Mostar - Ploce - Split.

- Split - Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/split/c
If you go from Zagreb do Vienna and skip Vienna in the beginning and skip Ljubljana you can use a night train from Vienna to Venice: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/vienna-venice-en-237/96
I think that's it :)

Hi!

1) Close to Marseille :arr: https://rail.cc/blog/de/zug-cote-bleue/ or somewhere along the Cote d'Azur where you are going to anyway (I like to beach of Villefranche sur Mer, just two stops from Nice Ville to the east); at Lido di Venezia, however this is a bit problematic as you would have to go there by Vaporetto which is quite expensive
2) I think it is a great route for a month, however you might think about skipping a few cities since it might be just a tad too much. But this depends on how long you are willing to spend in each city...what I would recommend is to have a few fixed cities where you definitely want to go and use the time in between to visit as much other places as you want/are able to do.
While we are talking about this, you should also think about having a set date at which you arrive at your final destination (in case you are travelling to Barcelona, then fly home) or, say at Kobenhavn, from where you can go home within one day (in case you are travelling the other way round) so that you dont have to worry about ending up somewhere with your ticket expired.
Most problematic is Mostar as the current train connections would force you to travel back to Zagreb before being able to head for Belgrade. Either skip it or think about taking a bus there (which you would also have to do to go Split - Ploce to get the train to Mostar).
3) Belgrade - Budapest (sleeper recommended, watch out for robbers/thieves at night); Berlin - Copenhagen/Malmö; apart from that your route doesnt really is suitable for night trains...oh, Zagreb - Split would be possible as well. You could also switch and go Budapest (night train to) - Prague - Vienna - Bratislava (night train to) - Berlin

Hi again, I got some help with my inter rail route and updated it, what do you think?

I am a little worried on how the hell I should get from Zagreb - Dubrovnik - Mostar - Belgrad, as I heard that it do not go trains everywhere and people actually suggest taking a plane from Zagreb to Dubrovnik.

Barcelona (with airplane) - Keep, of course (2 days) -- Kabul Hostel, party hostel, good location.
Marseille - Classic city, keep (2 days)
Cannes - Skip. Why? It is expensive. Seriously Expensive. I know your Norwegian folks are happy with your beautiful currency, but the juice is not worth the squeeze as we say. If you were going during the film festival, it would be historic, but otherwise this is not worth more than a day trip when you are in Nice. (1/2 day)
Nice - Yes, don't spend too much time here, its nice but you'll run out of things to do. (2 days)
Monaco - See above, it will be a half day trip or less.
Piza + Firenze - Piza is a maybe (SKIP) All there is to see is the leaning tower, that is all, it is not in the most convenient location. Firenze, my favorite European city, yes yes yes. (2 days)
Venezia - Another good choice, but only need 2 days here max, very small. (2 days)
Ljubljana - Undervalued, it is currently compared to what Prague and Budapest was 5-10 years ago. A hidden gem, great architecture. (2 days)
Zagreb - Another underestimated city, good choice. (2 days)
Split - SKIP Split is very nice, but I would switch. to Dubrovnik - it is on your route. (2 days)
Dubrovnik - The best beach near the places where you're going would be Dubrovnik. I would recommend replacing SPLIT with Dubrovnik.
Mostar - Yes, the road less traveled, good choice, you'll love the bridges and architecture (1 day)
Belgrad - A nice little city to check out as well, can't beat the eastern charm (1 day)
Budapest - Loved Budapest, great nightlife, great city to see split in half by the river, really inexpensive, nice city overall. (2 days)
Bratislava - Skip - Although Slovakia is a cool place to see, this may not be the most interesting place to spend time. I personally would skip.
Wien - Historic, musically filled, awesome city. (2 days) - Wombats hostel good option.
Munich -ADD- Not only a very beautiful train ride, but an awesome city, one of my favorites. I would add this between Vienna, as you'll be right there. (2 days) Wombats again (same company), free welcome beer! Right off the train station
Praha - I'm starting to think you and I are alike. Prague is one of the most beautiful cities I've been to. All of the pretty women certainly help. Great, cheap, beer and food. (2 days) Sir Toby's simple, cheap, beer.
Berlin - My favorite European city. So much to do and see, the whole city is alive. (2 days) Recommend Jetpak Hostel. One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at.
