Hi All,
I am new to travelling and my girlfriend and I are looking to plan a short trip to Italy this summer. Can anybody suggest a length of time to spend in each of these places?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
I dont know your timeframe but would think about something like this:
Rome 3 days
Florence 2 days
Pisa 1 day
Bologna 2 days
Milan 1/2 days
I'd leave Rome in the evening for Florence; for the trip to Pisa I would leave in the morning from Florence but leave your luggage at your accomodation, visit Pisa and travel to Bologna in the evening via Florence. Bologna to Milan either in the evening or in the morning, depending on your accomodation in both cities.
I'd recommend to book your tickets Rome - Florence and Bologna - Milan online in advance (if you want to support the railcc project you will find the link above); Florence - Pisa is with local trains, buy tickets directly at the station. Florence - Bologna can also be done by regional trains (cheap but slower compared to high speed trains).
