Hello friends

I am trying to use the railcc/DBBahn on-line booking link to book the CNL 485 “Lupus” Munich to Rome on 11 June 2013. After going through the whole process and clicking “purchase” I get a message that: “An error occurred during the booking process for the night train. Please try again later. The error has been recorded. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

I have tried other dates both close to the 11 June and closer to today’s date and get the same result. :(

When I click on the icon in the timetable I get the advice: “Current information about your connection: CNL 485: München Hbf -  Roma Termini:  Information.  Train is not bookable until further notice.” :o

As I also wish to book the CNL 484 Rome to Munich on 12 June, I have checked on earlier booking dates for that train and get the same results.

Is it possible to book CNL 485 and 484 on-line or is there a different method I should use?

Best Wishes

Richard

Hej Richard!

RFI, the company managing the Italian rail network, requires all carriages running in Italy to be equipped with a system which allows to control the side on which doors can be opened in stations since 2013. CNL trains have not been equipped with this system yet (although this new regulation has bben known quitee some time) and currently run with a special permission only (and with shortened trains as well). At the moment you can book CNL trains to/from Italy for dates until 07./08. April; we are currently waiting for new information regarding the operation of these trains after that date.

I assume that the permission will be extendend; as soon as there are updates I will post it here. ;)

Hej Flo

As you anticipated, the City Night Line service between Munich and Rome can now be booked using the DBahn/railcc link. I booked my return tickets for mid-May today.
Thanks for you support and advice.
Cheers

Hej Flo

It is some time now that I made the journey Munich to Rome and return (as far as Kufstein), so I thought I would report back.

The train was good (CNL usual standard) and the deluxe breakfasts amazing. For me, enough for lunch as well.
The timing of arrival and departure allowed me a very full day walking around Rome and the Vatican City, before collapsing into my ensuite compartment for the next leg. [My pattern for most of the 40-night journey.]

Still remembering our Munich-Amsterdam trip with good memories.

I notice that both you and Peter are on the move again!

Good Traveling

Cheers

Richard

Hej Richard,

thanks for the short report. :)

We took the Kosice - Cheb night train yesterday night to Karlovy Vary, visited the town and now stay overnight in Nuremberg to attend the DB InterRail Event this weekend.

The ZSSK/CD sleepers are not as modern as the CNL ones but offer a very different, old school atmosphere which you probably know from your trips in Eastern Europe.

Hope all is well,
greetings
