We're travelling around the south coast of France on our Interrail trip. It's our first Interrail so we need some advice! We'd like to stay in a safe and cheap place in cities like Marseilles, Cannes, Nice, St. Tropez or somewhere around them if it's cheap :D Thanks !

I think the cheapest way would be couchsurfing, but I`ve never tried it myself, so I got no further informations on that issue.
Camping would also be cheap, if you avoid going to those big, city-like campsides. But there are smaller ones as well, many of them have security service during the night. But that would mean, carrying tent and sleeping bag as well.
If you don`t like camping, you could search for cheap hostels, but I don`t know if there are cheap ones in the cities you mentioned.

Thank you Tomthebear!
As we're 3 19-year-old-girls, couchsurfing seems a bit unsafe for us, though I'm sure that it's a nice way of learning the culture.
I've read that there are also small cottages for rent on the camping areas, does anyone have experiences of those? How much would it cost?

Hi.
Nice is a nice place to stay. Have a look here (https://rail.cc/en/nice/accommodation/c) or at booking websites to find out prices:
[ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]
Advantage of hostels is: they are located in the city and you don't need an extra bus ticket to get there like it is usually the case for camp sites which are outside the cities.
Peter :)

all these 3 places have ''official'' youth hostels-hihostels, that for Cannes is in nearby Frejus. but better stay a little longer in Nice-walking from le gare, and can even use the 1 eur bus to get to Cannes-if no IR-day is used!
