Hi
I looked at this train route: https://rail.cc/en/eurail/milan-to-zermatt

We were considering doing the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St Moritz and then onto Zurich after 2 days skiing in Zermatt (we were going to train from Milan to Zermatt) but this route looks better.

Based on the schedule shown is it possible to get on in Milan and make connections through to Zermatt in one day?

We could then do our skiing and catch the train from Zermatt to Brig to Zurich.

Thanks Barry

Hej Barry,

Milan to Zermatt within one day is possible:

:arr: Milano 0820 - 1552 Reichenau-Tamins
:arr: Reichenau-Tamins 1556 - 1711 Disentis/Mustér
:arr: Disentis/Mustér 1714 - 2033 Brig
:arr: Brig 2052 - 2213 Zermatt

Disentis/Mustér - Brig is operated by MGB which only grants a 25% reduction for Eurail; one-way 2nd class is 64,5 CHF, 1st class 113,25€ (adult).

Anyway, I am not sure whether you are willing to spend the whole day on the train (btw the same connection would work out two hours before as well).
If you are willing to invest an extra day, you could split the journey for instance in Alp Grüm :arr: https://rail.cc/en/alp-gruem/accommodation/c or Ospizio Bernina :arr: https://rail.cc/en/ospizio-bernina/accommodation/c

When going Zermatt - Zurich you have two options: Fast: Zermatt - Visp, then by IC to Zurich (change of trains required in Bern). The more scenic option would be Zermatt - Brig, then to Spiez by regional train along the old route over Lötschberg (the IC trains use the base tunnel), from there again to Zürich via Bern.
