I will be travelling in early December from Barcelona to Rome. I plan to leave Barcelona on Tuesday 4 December and arrive in Rome on Friday 6 December.
On the way we want to stop in Marseille and travel on the Blue Coastline train. Have a short stopover in Nice and Monte Carlo and stop in at Pisa to see the Leaning Tower.

I would be interested in the cheapest way to do this trip.

I will have a 10 day Global EuRail Pass which I can use. I was thinking of one day stopover in Marseille so I should only have to use 3 days.

I welcome ideas on how to make this the trip of a lifetime for me and my 15 year old son. :)

Hej,

well you can do the whole route without any extra reservations.

For instance with this connection from Barcelona: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/barcelona-to-nice
In Miramas you could change for the Cote Bleue line: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/miramas-to-marseille There is a connection at 16100 arriving in Marseille at 1735.
Another alternative would be to go to Marseille first, visit the city, then travel along the Cote Bleue the following day (5th) in the morning. Continue to Nice in the afternoon, check in, then short visit to Monaco.

:arr: https://rail.cc/blog/de/zug-cote-bleue/

From Nice, travel the following day to Rome, including a stopover in Pisa.

PS: ;)
Please support railcc:
- buy your rail passes and tickets here on the recommended website: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
- add locations of your home-town (bars, nice places, ...)
Thank you! :)

Thanks for the great information.

Just to complicate it a bit more how about

1. Barcelona to Perpignan via the Little Yellow Train - Tuesday 4/12/13 - perhaps use local ticketing not Eurail pass?
2. Overnight in Perpignan
3. Perpignan to Marseille via the Blue Coastal Line changing in Miramas on the way so we don't double back.
4. Look around Marseille and stay the night Wednesday 5/12/13
5. Marseille to Genoa via the coast on Thursday 6/12/13 with a short stopover in Monte Carlo - maybe off one train and on the next if possible? Overnight in Genoa
6. Genoa to Rome on Friday stopping off in Pisa - maybe off one train and onto the next. We have accommodation in Rome

Would that be 3 days of my Global pass with no reservations?

Thanks Heaps
Barry

Hi Barry.
Just as I have the date in my mind...
Barcelona - Latour de Carol is ~ EUR 11,50. Buy it at the station (ticket machine).
Latour de Carol down to Perpignan by the Little Yellow Train is EUR 27,50 (ticket machine in Latour de Carol) - ter-sncf.com
Peter :)

Thanks Peter. That sounds like a plan.

Do you know if there is a discount for a 15 year old?

Hi I am working out the budget for the trains. I have taken your advice and decided against the eurail passes.

How do I work out the fares from Perpignan to Marceille for a 50 year old and 15 year old? I want to include the beautiful blue coastal train in this.

We are then going to spend the day in Marceille and continue onto Genoa the next day.

Just use the link [ux]https://rail.shop/sncf[/ux] and you will be forwarded to the SNCF booking website where you can look for fares and connections for your desired travel day.
Look for a connection Perpignan - Marseille first, after you are shown results you can change the search details and add a via stop (add Martigues) to get routed via the Cote Bleue line.
