I'm clueless as to the most economical tickets to purchase, even after trying to wade through and understand what there is to offer! Also would love advice on our itinerary!
We have some specific dates of traveling: Paris-Munich July 5 and we need to arrive in Venice on July 10. I'd love to save on hotel costs for a night or two if there is an overnight train we can take to Munich and/or Venice.
As for the itinerary, we would love to visit Salzburg and possible Grindlewald area in Switzerland. Would it be better to stay in Munich and make day trips to those other areas?
We've not been to Europe before and we are excited! We'd love to make the most of our short time vacationing! Thank you for any advice offered!

Hi.
On this route you should think about pre-booked point to point tickets instead of an Eurail pass. It will be cheaper in my eyes. As you do not need flexibility and have your fixed travel dates, these pre-booked special prices will be a good solution for you.
Note: as earlier you book, as cheaper the prices are. Pre-booking time is usually 92 days (=3 months), but may vary.
Paris - Munich: e-ticket via [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] - print out at home, very easy and save.
Day train from EUR 39
Night train (I recommend at least the 6-bed-couchettes) from EUR 69
Munich - Salzburg: as well on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] - from EUR 19
But it depends if you want to have a round trip, you can use for example the Bayern Ticket of Deutsche Bahn. Valid for local trains and you could visit for example Schloss Neuschwanstein or some other smaller cities during one day. One person for EUR 22, then plus EUR 3 per person you add (maximum is 5 persons in total). So 2 persons = 25 EUR, 3 persons = 28 EUR, ...
Available at ticket machines in Munich station. No pre-booking required as only valid for regional trains. Think about it. And it is valid as well up to Salzburg (even being in Austria, but it is the border station).
Salzburg - Venice: there is a direct night train coming from Munich but it leaves late in Salzburg. So an option could be as well to have Munich as your base (Wombats hostel for example - https://rail.cc/en/munich/wombats-city-hostel/l337 ) and from there your round trips by Bayern Ticket.
Special prices for the night train Munich to Venice here: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
Venice - Rome: buy as well a special price ticket. Very easy to do online: [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux] or trenitalia.com
Have a nice trip, Peter :)

Hi,
in fact, the Munich - Venice night train is attached to the Vienna - Venice night train in Salzburg. The latter might be the better option for you as it arrives earlier in Salzburg (2348): :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/vienna-venice-en-237/96
