I'm not going to say you need to do this route.
but here's the route from my first interrail.
we spend a lot of time in trains.
but we didn't mind.
This route let's you see a lot of europe in one trip.
my tip is not to only visit the big cities, but also small towns or villages along the way, people are way nicer over there and may offer you dinner or a bed. maybe even both.
anyway this was the route:
1.Amsterdam (the Netherlands)
2. Paris (France, we got a ride from 2 fellow 'hippies'.)
3. Limoges(France)
4.Clermont Ferrand (France, BEAUTIFUL city with great bars and a lot of students)
5. Marseille (France)
6. Cannes ( France, for the people who like great cars. not cheap over there though but if you're a musician i suggest you go there and play on the street, you WILL make 50 euro an hour)
7. Ventimiglia (Italy)
8. La Spezia (Cinque Terra)
9. Lucca (City of my ancestors, it's beautiful)
10. Firenze
11. Trieste (or venice if you really want to)
12. Rijeka (Croatia, nice day on the beach)
13. Zagreb ( I personally recommand the funk lounge hostel. it's awesome)
14. don't get stuck in Koprivnica like us
15. SiĆ³fok (Hungary, Great town at the Ballaton lake, great bars/clubs)
16. Budapest
17. Bratislava (don't go there on sundays, the only thing open on a sunday evening is the Macdonalds.)
18. Praha (Beautiful city)
19. Dresden
20. Berlin.
that was like the summary of our route. we went to 32 towns in 22 days. these are the 20 towns that made the best impression on us or the towns that are common known.
I hope you can use this information for your Interrail or whatever.
bye,

Hi, that's a very nice route! I'm planning an interrail in next May, and my route is simlar to yours, infact I'll go through Zagreb, Balaton lake, Budapest, Bratislava (maybe), Praha, Dresden and Berlin.
I have some doubts concerning the Balaton lake and Bratislava, are they worthwhile? would you suggest me to stop there for a few days or just for a quick stop?
What about the train from Croazia to Balaton/Budapest, which train/s did you get for that part of your route? I can't find any connection!
Thanks for your post,
