Hi, I need help with my interral route in eastern Europe: Florence (where I live) - Trieste - Ljubljana - Zagreb - Sarajevo - Beograd - Budapest - Krakow (and Auschwitz) - Praha - Dresden - Berlin - Florence. What do you reckon?
How long shall I stay in each city? Are there any cities on the route that I can't miss?
I can't find any connection between Sarajevo and Beograd, are there any? (also by bus)
What's the best way to go from Berlin to Florence? I've planned to get an ICE to Munich and then the night train Munich-Rome, are there any more convenient solutions?
Thanks for your answers,
Giovanni [Meddle]

Hi Giovanni ...
Looks good your route.
Sarajevo - Belgrade: the train connection was canceled this winter: https://rail.cc/en/train/sarajevo-to-belgrade
Option by train is back to Zagreb and then to Belgrade.
Other option which will take longer is to continue from Sarajevo via Mostar to Ploce (https://rail.cc/en/train/sarajevo-to-ploce). From Ploce by bus to Dubrovnik (buscroatia.com) and then to Montenegro (example to Bar), also by bus.
From Montenegro to Belgrade the scenic route - I recommend the day train, as it is really really scenic!
https://rail.cc/en/train/bar-to-belgrade
Then continue like you planed it - details here in the railcc schedules.
From Berlin to Florence I recommend the route like you planed ... Berlin - Munich, then night train to Florence.
As you can not travel for free within your country of residence (=Italy), think about buying a special price ticket from Berlin (or Munich) to Florence. Available from EUR 39 as e-ticket (order online, print out at home) here: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
Other option: Berlin to Zurich by night train for example (https://rail.cc/en/train/berlin-to-zurich) and then crossing the Alps on this scenic route: https://rail.cc/en/train/zurich-to-milan
More photos here: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
And then for the part in Italy special prices of Trenitalia...
Please support railcc:
- buy your rail passes and tickets here on the recommended website: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
- add locations of your home-town (bars, nice places, ...)
Thank you! :)

Thank you Peter,
I've decided to modify my route in order to use only trains and to be able to visit also some natural parks; this is my idea:
Florence (night train to Villach, and then EC to Slovenia)
Lake Bled (regional train to Ljubljana)
Ljubljana (train to Zagreb)
Zagreb, and a day trip to Plitvice national park (train to Hungary)
Lake Balaton (train to Budapest)
Budapest
Bratislava or Kosice (is it wortwhile?) and then the Tatras
Krakow, and day trip to Auschwitz (night train to Praha)
Praha and maybe a day trip to Karlovy Vary (is it worthwhile?)
Dresden, and a day trip to Moritzburg or Pillnitz (train to Berlin)
Berlin
[and Hamburg if there are some days left]
Munich-Florence
The problem is the route from Budapest to Krakow: I would like to have one or two days in the Tatras, are there any trains/buses connecting Bratislava or Kosice to the Tatras area? and other connections to go from the Tatras to Krakow?
Thanks,
Meddle :D

of course there are. the MAIN Slovak IC-train route is Kosice-Tatra (name is POPRAD)- Zilina-B'lava, fast trains ev 2 hrs, Ic (RES needed) 3 or 4/day. There are also 2/3 daily train(connections) Bpest-Miskolc-Kosice.
Tarta-Krakow needs bus -at least part-and wholly for fast trip. Some direct (HUngar) orangeways/.com Bpest-Tatra-Krakow, not daily, or the usual slow but always working local buses Poprad to border=hranice (ZDIAR) -pass over- PL minibus to Zakopane, and if you are 125% trainlover, train, or with normal mind, bus (faster, ev 30 mins, cost about 10 PLN0 to Krakow

Thank you very much nltrainer, your information is very useful! Has anyone got any suggestions on other places to see along the route?
