Hi guys,

Me and two others (all 18 years old) have come up with this route for a 10 in 22 day travel pass over the course of 24 days) I've included the time we intend to spend somewhere, although of course it could change once we get there!

Amsterdam- 2 nights
Paris- 1 night (we intend to take a night train to Ljubljana via Munich)
Ljublana- 3 nights (Only really going for Bled but would be nice to see the city too)
Split- 3 Nights (Night Train to Budapest)
Budapest- 3 nights(night train to Krakow)
Krakow- 3 nights (night train to Prague)
Prague- 3 nights
Berlin- 3 Nights
Cologne- 1 night
Brusells- 1 night then Fly home

We have a budget of around 1500 euro, we are fine with sharing dorms etc, but we would like a private 3 sleeper cabin for long night trains. We've budgeted this as 13 euro each per night train, is this correct? Is our budget enough?

Also any opinions on our route and places we should leave out and places we should see instead are much appreciated!

Many Thanks,
Fintan

Hej Fintan,

seems like a nice route. However, there are a few things I want to mention:

# Amsterdam - Paris: Avoid the direct Thalys trains, as they require a massive extra reservation fee. Better travel without much reservation costs via Antwerpen - Gent - Lille; you can find route options at the Train Connections section on the railcc website.

# Paris - Ljubljana: Two options: a) CNL overnight to Munich, continue with day train to Ljubljana. Pro: You can use the 1900 rule for the night train and therefore would need just one travel day. Con: The CNL is quite expensive
b) TGV Lyria to Zurich (9€ reservation), then night train in direction of Zagreb - Belgrade until Ljubljana (or stay longer on the train if you want to sleep more, then return to Ljubljana). Pro: The night train is cheaper. Con: You would need two travel days and therefore would later not be able to take the direct Split - Budapest night train (which is not a total distaster, read why further down).

# Ljubljana - Split: You have to go via Zagreb and should not leave to late to get the connection to Split there.

# Split - Budapest: During the summer there is twice weekly direct night train to Budapest, for which you would need two travel days as it leaves before 1900. Alternatively you could go with the regular night train to Zagreb, then with the day train to Budapest which would mean a little less time there but would need only one travel day.

Everything else looks smooth, reservations are only needed for the night trains on the remaining legs. For night train details including timings and prices have a look here: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train

Thank you! :)

Hi Flo,

Cheers for your response, lots of good information in there that we didn't know! Just one question if we take Option B for the Paris to Ljubljana train, and then the night train to zagreb and then day train onto budapest option, would we overstep our 10 travel days?

Thanks,
Fintan

Hi,

no problem - just ask if there are further questions. :)

That would be fine:

1) Amsterdam - Paris
2) Paris - Zurich, then continue with night train to Ljubljana
3) Arrival in Ljubljana, transfer to Bled
4) Bled - Ljubljana - Zagreb - Split
5) Split - Zagreb night train, using the 1900 rule and going to Budapest the following day
6) Budapest - Krakow (1900 rule)
7) Krakow - Prague (1900 rule)
8) Prague - Berlin
9) Prague - Cologne
10) Cologne - Brussels

Ah I see, thanks for clearing all that up!
