Hi,

I'm planning on travelling by train from Hungary to Romania. I plan to start my trip in Budapest and stop in Brasov for a few days. Is there a direct train from Budapest to Brasov? I would prefer not to have to change trains.

I searched on this site but couldn't find any such train.

From Brasov I plan to take the train to Bucarest so if there is a train ticket that will allow me to travel Budapest to Brasov, stay in Brasov for a few days and then take a train to Bucarest could you please let me know as it would be helpful.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help and advice.

Naveen

Hi Naveen.

Check the connections here, the night trains usually stop in Brasov:
https://rail.cc/en/train/budapest-to-bucharest

E-tickets are available here:
Budapest - Brasov for the direct night train from EUR 29 for a 6-bed-cochette: [ux]https://rail.shop/mav[/ux]
Brasov - Bucharest: [ux]https://rail.shop/cfr[/ux] (fill in as destination Bucuresti Nord) for about EUR 11

Please support railcc:
- buy your rail passes and tickets here on the recommended website: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
- add locations of your home-town (bars, nice places, ...).
Thank you! :)

Thank you Peter!

I had a look at the options the available and had a question about the sleeper compartments. In the following link https://rail.cc/en/night-train/budapest-bucharest-en-473/120
the options for single person sleeper compartments are provided as:

1-bed-compartment | private washing facility | 1st class OR
1-bed-compartment | private shower + WC | 1st class.

What is the difference between having a private washing facility and one with shower and WC, as I consider them to be the same thing? I assume both will have a private toilet.

Thanks again,

Naveen

Hi Naveen.
No, there is a difference, otherwise it wouldn't be two categories. ;)

private washing facility = you have a washbasin in your cabin and common toilets on the floor. As there are only some travellers in the sleeper cars and there is one staff member per car, these toilets are usually clean.

private shower + WC = you have your own private toilet and shower only for you in your cabin.

Thanks Peter,

I wondered if the 1 bed compartment option is still being provided in the available. I checked on the Hungarian railways website for availability and prices and they only provide a 3 person sleeper car option. Do you know if I might actually be able to book a single compartment and if this will be possible with an InterRail pass or is it something I have to purchase separately?

Thanks again,

Naveen

Hi Naveen.
Okay, you are travellig with an Interrail pass and not with a not with a point to point ticket: then you have to buy the reservation for the night train at a railway station.
Either in Budapest or as well in an other country (not the UK) you travel before at a large railway station (Germany, Austria, ...).
The one-bed-compartment should only be available with a 1st class Interrail pass.
If they booking-system of MAV doesn't show the option, it is not available on that date. But therefore you should contact MAV as they sell the ticket.

If you travel with Interrail, you can buy your Interrail pass here via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
And with your purchase you support all the information we have on the website and of course the forum . Thank you! :)

Pete :)
