Hi guys! I'm in a soup! I am planning to leave on the 23rd of this month for Faro (from London), after which I want to spend a day in Lisbon on the 24th. I was wondering if I can buy an interrail pass in a station in Lisbon, so that I may use it to travel from 25th onwards, when my first stop will be Madrid.I can't buy the pass beforehand as I only find out on the 23rd whether I am granted my Schengen visa (Im a UK resident with an Indian passport). Unfortunately I dont have any time as I have to return to the UK by 16th Feb. This is my itinerary:

London to Faro by plane- 23rd night
Faro- 24th whole day
Faro to Lisbon- 24th night
Lisbon- 25th whole day
Lisbon to Madrid- 25th night
Madrid- 26th whole day + 27 whole day
Madrid to Barcelona- 27th night
Barcelona- 28th and 29th whole day
Barcelona to Paris- 29th night
Paris- 30th and 31st whole day
Paris to Montpellier- 31st night
Montpellier- 1st & 2nd whole day
Montpellier to Monaco- 2nd night
Monaco- 3rd whole day
Monaco to Geneva- 3rd night
Geneva- 4th whole day
Geneva to Verona/Padva/Bologna- 4th night
V/P/B to Venice- 5th morning
Venice to Florence- 5th night
Florence- 6th whole day, 7th
Florence to Rome- 7th night
Rome- 8 & 9th whole day
Rome to Milan- 9th night
Milan- 10th whole day
Milan to Salzburg- 10th night
Salzburg- 11
Salzburg to Berlin- 11th night
Berlin- 12 & 13 whole day
Berlin to Amsterdam- 13th night
Amsterdam- 14 & 15th whole day
Amsterdam to London- 16th

I plan to activate the Interrail on my way from Lisbon to Madrid, since I couldnt find any cheap tickets. Correct me if I am wrong. I realise that as of now there are 14 trips but the pass I want to buy is the one that allows 10 days of travel in 22 days. I guess it's much better to take a local bus instead of the interrail, for example when travelling from Madrid to Barcelona. I guess I can also avoid using the pass while travelling from Montpellier to Monaco and from P/V/B to Venice, and maybe even Venice to Florence and Florence to Rome. Can anybody recommend which trips Im better off making with the pass and which I am not?

Also, as you can see, I've planned most of my travelling overnight to save accommodation costs and to generally save on time, do trains operate on these routes at night? If anyone can help, in case they have been down the road recently, or can volunteer info, will be very grateful! Thanks in advance! Best, Ranja

hi
you can check if the trains are running on the pages of the train companies websites, e.g. [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] . I'm not sure, if all night trains are running due the winter season.

Normally you can buy a Interrail ticket at Santa Apolónia. Check if you can buy a IR-ticket (6 month resistance in an european country: https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail ) Otherwise you have to buy a Eurail ticket.

Maybe recalculate the prices for the bus transfers you might need with the price for the 22 days continuous ticket (290 GBP)

sorry for the short answer :) gn8 :)

Hej,

you should get an IR pass as well at Santa Apolonia as well as at Oriente, but I would go to the CP office at Rossio station - it is usually much quieter there, you can have a seat and staff was always very friendly when I was there. Also, it is in the city centre which is quite handy as well.

Regarding your trip, I would not go Madrid - Barcelona by bus, I'd imagine it as a rather long and boring journey. The AVE takes you all the way in not even three hours.

Instead, think about Montpellier - Monaco (however, I wouldnot call it first choice), Monaco - Genoa (by regional trains!), Genoa - VPB (regional trains), VPB - Venice (regional trains) and the remainder of your trips in Italy (going by regional trains takes longer but is rather cheap, even when bought on the day; you can also buy cheap advance fares for the high speed trains Venice - Firenze - Roma - Milan on the internet.

If you can fit it in, I'd go Milan - Salzburg via the Bernina Railway: :arr: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/

For night trains, have a look here: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train or select a city and check if it is served by night trains. For example, Madrid: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/madrid/train/c

Most night trains run daily all-year, if not, it is mentioned in the details of the description on railcc.
