Hi,
We are looking to travel this route, arriving Dijon Xmas Eve 2013.
We are trying to work out how many days we should allow to spend on this journey, and how long we would need in each city, as we are considering the possibility of spending nights in Vienna and Zurich, and possibly a few hours in Salzburg, Innsbruck and Vaduz (Buchs).
Also, what kind of ticket would allow us to hop on and hop off at each station during this trip, looking for the most flexible and cheapest, we would probably take no longer than a week to complete it, so a 7-day ticket should suffice if they are available.
I was thinking probably an overnight train from Krakow-Vienna, so at least one of the legs would need a 2-person sleeper.
We are a married couple, both 30, who are very adaptable, know our way around maps and guide books, and generally do a lot of research to familiarise ourselves with a location before we travel, but we don't need to stick to rigid itineraries.
While we live in Australia, we both have British passports, and British drivers licences with a UK address.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Cheers, Glen

Hi.
I recommend point to point tickets. Don't buy a pass.
Krakow - Vienna: contact the Polish railways [ux]https://rail.shop/pkpic[/ux]
They havespecial offers.
Vienna - Zurich: [ux]https://rail.shop/oebb[/ux]
You can also include a stop. Other option is [ux]https://rail.shop/westbahn[/ux] for Salzburg.
Zürich - Dijon: if you like, use a direct TGV train. Book via [ux]https://rail.shop/sncf/reservation[/ux] but pay attention not to get forwarded to RE Australia, as tickets are much more expensive there.

Hej Glen,
the thing with Eurail tickets is that they are only available for 1st class for adults. For instance, a 4 days regional pass for AT and CH would be 321 usd/243€, thus a single travel day would be ~80 usd/60€.
Also, you are travellling rather short distances, so I would recommend a regular ticket (1st or 2nd class) for Wien - Zürich instead. This would cost 105,40€ in 2nd, 177,40€ in 1st class. It is valid one month and you can make as many stopovers along the route (Salzburg, Innsbruck, Vaduz) as you want. No reservations are required so you can hop on/hop off as you like.
If you want to travel cheaper, you could get Sparschiene tickets from ÖBB, which start from 19€ for Wien - Salzburg, 9€ Salzburg - Innsbruck, 9€ Innsbruck - Vaduz and 19€ for Vaduz - Zürich in 2nd class. However you would have to book early to get these cheapest fares, the later you book, the less money you save compared with the regular price.
For Warszawa - Wien and Zürich - Dijon I would go with pre booked tickets as Peter mentioned.
