Hello,

Im travelling by the 27th from Barcelona to Berlin with a Friend, we both have the Eurail Global Pass with 15 everyday use.

We where looking for the fastest and cheapest way to get from Barcelona to Berlin and we've been told that the fastest cheapest way is changing trains in Paris.

Our plan is to travel on the night of the 27th from BCN to Paris and then arriving to Paris, change from Austerlitz train station to Gare du Nord and then take the train to Berlin. Both of this trains need reservations in advanced (which means we need to pay for them)

I read in the forum about the train from Paris to Berlin (being two ways to get there a) Belgium-Cologne stops or b) Frankfurt) Being the option b) the cheapest way...

Could any of you please notify me how much will this reservations and trains cost????? I am lost looking through the internet and Im going crazy with all the different information and prices we are getting.

Thanks in advanced for your help!!!

Hej,

do you want fastest or cheapest? ;)

Here's what I would do:

Barcelona 1716 - 1957 Cerbere :arr: Regional train, no reservation needed
Cerbere 2017 - 0722 Paris :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/cerbere-paris-icn-3730/77
Paris - Berlin: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/cerbere-paris-icn-3730/77

Best option is at 0825 since it includes only a domestic TGV to Strasbourg with 6€ reservation. However, you'd only have an hour to change stations in Paris (Gare d'Austerlitz to Gare de l'Est; by direct Metro 5) which is alright if the night train is on time, if there are any troubles it might be too little time. Happened to me last February. ;)
Another good option is at 0910, but this includes a TGV Alleo which means the reservation will be 13€. However, you will arrive at Berlin at the same time as with the earlier train.

Dont (!) go via Paris Nord - Belgium - Cologne as this would include the extremely expensive Thalys train: :arr: https://rail.cc/en-type-country/thalys/thalys-thy/41

Another option would be to go to Paris during the day, then to Berlin with the night train. But this will be a bit more expensive than the other option.

Flo, Thanks a lot for your reply... I still have some enquires, so let me see if I understood...

the option BCN-Cerbere-Paris-Berlin is the Cheapest right?????

I should take the BCN-Cerbere and it will not cost me because its a domestic and needs no reservation..
then the night train will have to be Cerbere-Paris... which will have a cost of 6E for seats and 20E for couchettes.. arriving at Paris at 722am, change stations FAST (Gare de Austerlitz to Gare de'l est) through metro line 5 if i will take the TGV to Strasbourg?????

Then I have 2 options...
a) 825am TGV to Strasbourg where I need to pay a 6E reservation (will this train take me to Berlin?????) what time does it arrives there aprox???
b) 910am TGV to Alleo were the reservation costs 13E... from which gare does this train leave in Paris???? does it take me straight to Berlin to???

So in general Ill just have to pay the first 6E and then either 6 or 13 more??? and will arrive to Berlin on the next day at around 5pm???? is this correctly???

Hej Paula,

please follow the links I posted in my first answer. There you will find the information regarding reservation costs and arrival times in Berlin. ;)
Just ask if you dont find what you need - but please click the links first.

The route I suggested is the best compromise between cheap and fast. You will have minimum reservation costs of 6€+6€.
Going to Barcelona during the day and then by night train would cost 6,50€+3€+at least 11,50€

Both TGV leave at Gare de l'Est, just follow the links like I said above.

Paula, no problem to ask - that's why we run the forum . ;)

Yellow arrows indicate a change of trains, grey arrows indicate stations along the way where you dont have to change trains.

What do you think if instead of going from Cerbere to Paris I go straight to Strasbourg and there change for the train to berlin???

Good idea!

Didnt think of that because the night train usually only runs at weekends during the winter - but you are lucky and it runs on the 27th as well! :)
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/cerbere-strasbourg-icn-4850/195

The onward connection from Strasbourg to Berlin is then the same as here: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/-to-
This means you leave Strasbourg at 1052, change at Offenburg and arrive at Berlin at 1725.

The same connection also runs at 0852, but as the night train arrives in Strasbourg at 0850 I dont think you will make it. ;)
So you can instead have a quick look around Strasbourg and visit the Münster for instance.

Flo, I never asked but from which station does the BCN-CERBERE train leave from???? Estacion de Sants or Franca????

Thanks

PS.I had to change dates so now im leaving on the 28th!! So cannot catch the Strasbourg train instead!! So i would have to take either the 825am or 910am from Paris Gare Est!

Hej,

BCN - Cerbere leaves from Sants station and also stops at Passeig de Gracia, Clot-Arago and Sant Andreu Comtal if any of these would be more convenient for you.
