As far as I know, InterRail passes can't be used in your own country of residence. But if I am to leave my country with the InterRail pass (Istanbul to Europe), is it valid? Will I be able to leave Istanbul with an InterRail pass or do I have to buy a seperate ticket?

Hej,

you will get a 50% discount for TCDD tickets until the Turkish border - from there you can use InterRail. However, keep in mind that the train connections from Istanbul to Europe are disrupted at the moment. This means no train to Greece and bus replacement for the night train to Sofia/Bucuresti until Kapikule. You might consider getting a bus ticket instead and then start your InterRail trip from Sofia/Bucuresti/whereever you want to start. :)
