Hi guys!

Pretty new to this so hoping some experienced travellers can assist me!

So the Plan:

Fly to Paris from Manchester 22/03
Stay in a hostel 22nd and 23rd March
23/03 - night train to Berlin?
Arrive Berlin 24/03
Stay in hostel 24th and 25th
26/03 - night train to Copenhagen
Arrive 27/03
Stay in hostel 27th and 28th
29/03 Night train to Amsterdam
Arrive 30/03
Stay in Hostel 30th and 31st
Fly to Manchester 01/04

So thats the plan - now i need to find out if it is feasible to do it!

Question 1) - where can I find details of night trains for Paris - Berlin, Berlin - Copenhagen and Copenhagen - Amsterdam (or if you know if you can definitely do it that would reassure me!)

Question 2) If I am getting the night train, it obviously falls over two days - will this affect my being able to travel any 5 days in 10? I have read about the 1900h rule. Can someone confirm that this means if I take a train after 7pm and arrive after 0400hrs this means that it will only count as one days travel and that day being the arrival day (e.g if i got an 8pm train on 23/03 from paris and arrived in berlin at 6am on 24/03 then only the 24/03 would be classed as a travel day, leaving me 4 more days of travel on my pass AND meaning if i wanted to use local transport in berlin I can up until 2359 on the 24/04?)

Also I am certainly open to suggestions regarding changing the order of my destinations or different destinations especially as my research so far gives me the indication there is not a night train from copenhagen to amsterdam!

Any help of clarification will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Amy-Lynne :D

Hej Amy-Lynne,

first to your questions:

1) Here you find most night trains within Europe: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train

2) Yes, that's how the 1900 rule works (you can read about it in the above link). Anyway, keep in mind that you cannot use public transport (such as bus, tram, metro) with the Interrail ticket! However, what you can do is to use suburban services such as S-Bahn in Berlin.

3) There is a Copenhagen - Amsterdam night train.

To your trip in general. You would only use three night trains (all of which are CNL with rather expenisve reservation costs) which means you make not very good use of the ticket. If you only want to go to these places, I think you will be better off with pre-bought advance tickets. You can get them online here :arr: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]

Also, the idea of taking the plane for such short distances as Manchester - Paris and Amsterdam - Manchester seems a bit awkward to me. Going with Eurostar or one of the ferries probably wont cost much more and certainly adds more to the Interrail adventure than just taking a plane. ;)

Hi Flo,

Thanks for your response!

Flying - its cheaper for us to fly to our first destination than get a train as we have to get to London and then go from there - we are looking at £50 including baggage for a flight and looking at £60 for train to london and then the eurostar which is quite pricey so its much cheaper. - Although we will be looking at a coach from manchester to london too then see from there :)

We will bet getting the interrail pass on the basis that it gives us great flexibility if we decide to change our plans - the itinerary i set out before is just a general idea but we do have a very good idea of the cities we want to see :)

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

consider that you will need reservations for all three night trains - travelling in March should allow you to get these at rather short notice though. However, especially the Amsterdam - Kopenhagen train is often fully booked since it consists of four coaches only.
If you want to start from Paris with a reservation ready for the night train to Berlin, you can get these online as well on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] - the how-to is explained in the night train details of this night train (when you follow the link I posted before). :)
