Hello,

First time Eurail user here. I am planning to go from Berlin to Venice (to eventually Rome). There are two connections for Berlin to Venice, and I have two questions.

For the daytime connection, it goes through Austria. Does this mean I need to Eurail Pass for Austria as well? My plan was have Select 3: France, Germany, and Italy only; and my plan is to go to Italy from Germany, not from France.

Also, for the overnight train from Berlin to Venice, does it count towards two travel days?

Thanks.

Hi.
From Berlin to Venice you usually travel via Munich.
So by one of the frequent day trains from Berlin to Munich ( https://rail.cc/en/eurail/berlin-to-munich - also possible by night train), then by night train (recommended) from Munich via AUSTRIA to Venice or Rome - https://rail.cc/en/eurail/venice-to-rome.

If you have a look on maps, you will see, you can't avoid Austria if you travel this route. So the answer is YES, you will need Austria included in your rail pass.

Other option: if you know you exact travel dates, just buy a point to point ticket for either Berlin-Venice/Rome or Munich-Venice/Rome. You save travel days on your Eurail pass and you do not need Austria as travel country. If you book early you can get very inexpensive tickets here: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]

If you travel overnight train Berlin-Munich and then by day train Munich-Venice, it is ONE travel day.
If you travel by day train Berlin-Munich and by night train Munich-Venice, this are TWO travel days.
Read here for the rule: https://rail.cc/en/eurail-night-train

Information about night train: https://rail.cc/en/eurail-night-train

And if you like the information here on railcc, buy your Eurail pass on the recommended website - [ux]https://rail.shop/eurail[/ux] .

Thank you,
Peter :)

Direct links to the point to point special fares - just fill in your travel date on the new website:

Berlin - Venice: https://rail.shop/bahn?l=en&s=Berlin&e=VENEZIA
Berlin - Rome: https://rail.shop/bahn?l=en&s=Berlin&e=ROMA

Berlin - Munich: https://rail.shop/bahn?l=en&s=Berlin&e=Munich
Munich - Venice: https://rail.shop/bahn?l=en&s=Munich&e=VENEZIA
Munich - Rome: https://rail.shop/bahn?l=en&s=Munich&e=ROMA

Thanks a lot for your help. I wasn't aware of the 19:00 rule, and now I know better. Thanks.

Yess but the rule kind of mix me up... it says that the rule is efficient for the interail pass, but since i'm a tourism i'm using an eurail select pass. Does the rule apply the same? thanks
