hi there

We are planning to travel from Istanbul to Brno or Prague in early November. Time is not too much of an issue but money is! We are also flexible on what countries we pass through or stay overnight in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey,
you can get the train to Sofia first. Don't know how much it is, but I'm sure you can find that out in Turkey. In Summer there have been problems with this connection and they replaced the trains with buses. Don't know if that's still the case. From Sofia there's a daily night train to Beograd in Serbia (20.15 - 04.17). In Beograd get a coffee at the café in the train station and go further with the direct train EC 270 Avala to Brno/Prague. We did that in summer and bought one ticket from Beograd to Budapest (15 Euro) at the ticket office in Beograd. The other ticket from Budapest to Prague was sold online (19 Euro, I think) and we had to print it out at Budapest Keleti station. The train stops there for about 30 minutes, so it wasn't a problem. That's the cheapest way you can stay on the train ;)
