Hello,
I am new in this forum and I'm planning an interrail with my wife from Paris to Istanbul (via Bucharest), imitating the great voyages to Constantinople of old European trains. Our idea is to buy the InterRail Global Pass 5 travels/10 days for second class travel in November.
Itinerary.
19/nov/12
-PARIS - MUNICH 20:05 - 07:10 (+1) - Paris depart (G. de l'Est) train Cassiopeia - sleeping-car 2 bed compartments
20/nov/12
-MUNICH - SALZBURG - 8:48 - 10:42 - train EC111 (8:27 - 10:09) ---- Train RE79011 (8:48 - 10:42) ---- train RAILJET RJ63 (9:27 - 10:56)
- NIGHT IN SALZBURG
21/nov/12
-SALZBURG - BUDAPEST - 11:01 - 16:49 - Train RJ63 - RAILJET
-BUDAPEST - BRASOV - 19:10 - 08:19 (+1) - Budapest depart (Keleti station) tran Ister - sleeping-car 2 bed compartments
22/nov/12
DAY AND NIGHT IN BRASOV
23/nov/12
-BRASOV - BUCHAREST - 8:27 - 11:00 - optional: 9.13 IR 1528 - BUC -11.50 (02:37 h) 1ª & 2ª class
-BUCHAREST - ISTANBUL - 13:00 - 07:50 (+1) - IR 461 name: Romania, or Bosphour - sleeping-car 2 bed compartments
By rule of 7:00 p.m., the trip would have five days of travel to these sections corresponding Paris, Salzburg, Salzburg - Budapest, Budapest - Brasov, Brasov - somewhere in Bulgaria until 24:00 on the 23rd, from 00:00 on day 24 until 7:05 in Istanbul. Is that correct?
As I've read on this site, prices for night trains in bed sleeping-car 2 second class compartments would be approximately:
PARIS - MUNICH: 70 € per person
BUDAPEST - BRASOV: 42 € per person
BUCHAREST - ISTANBUL: 33 € per person
I have read a lot about Interrail, but I have many doubts.
1 - It is possible to travel with an overall pass in second class compartments of two beds in these trains?
2 - I live in Spain, where I can book in advance overnight trains?. I can not book any website.
3 - My wife and me, can we travel in the same compartment with two beds?
Thanks in advance
Peter

Hi.
The links to the night trains are in the answer of you last post:
Paris - Munich: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/paris-munich-cnl40451/32
Book online like mentioned bellow the map at this link.
Budapest - Brasov: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/budapest-brasov-ic-407/118
Book either in Munich or Salzburg at the main stations. Online booking is not possible as much as I know. If so, then only at mav-start.hu with pickup of the ticket at a ticket machine in Budapest.
Bucharest - Istanbul: currently the train stops at the Turkish border, so use a normal seated car - https://rail.cc/en/night-train/bucharest-istanbul-d-461/465/134
Ask at Bucharest, as sleepers are not worth to use.
If you start on the 19.11.2012 in Paris with the night train at 2005, your ticket requires as starting date the 19.11.2012, even you fill in the 20.11.2012 as your first travel date.
To your questions:
1) Yes.
2) See above.
3) Yes.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for your quick response
I've tried to book the leg Paris - Munich from the link but don't see the price with Interrail, only the standard price.
I thought that In this case the Pass should be valid from the 19/11 even though you will only count the 20/11 as a travel day (Paris - Munich - Salzburg) and traveling on the train 473 to Brasov, or another train departs after 19:00 for not to exceed 5 days
In case of no double compartments available, Can my wife and me be together in a compartment of 3, 4 or 6 berths?
Thanks!

Hi Mik.
In these trains you shouldn't have problems to get mixed compartments.
You have to follow exactly the description bellow the map to get the Interrail reservation for Paris to Munich!
Do it step by step like it is explained there! Then it will work! :)
Have a nice evening, Peter :)

Hi Peter,
Yes, it works :)
Even I still doubts about the pass 5/10. If I take the train from Budapest to Barasov after 7pm (which was scheduled: Ister 473) does not exceed 5 days. ¿? its correct?
Thank you very much Peter, for today i don't disturb you more :)
Good night!

Perfect. :)
Your pass starts the 19.11.2012 at 00:01h in the morning and ends on the 28.11.2012 at 23:59h in the evening.
Day 1: Paris (2005) - Munich (0710) AND Munich (0727) - Salzburg (0857)
Fill in as travel date the 20.11.2012, using the rule for night trains
Day 2: Salzburg (1101) - Budapest (1649)
Fill in as travel date the 21.11.2012
Day 3: Budapest (1910) - Brasov (0819)
Fill in as travel date the 22.11.2012, using the rule for night trains
Day 4: Brasov(0827) - Bucharest (1100) AND Bucharest (1300) - up to the stop around 1900
Fill in as travel date the 23.11.2012
+
Day 5: from Bucharest(~1900) - Istanbul (0750)
Fill in as travel date the 24.11.2012, using the rule for night trains
Important: ask in Bucharest about the options of this night train - as you have to change at the Bulgarian-Turkish border to a bus replacement which is included in Interrail.
So I did a wrong calculation a post before concerning the 5 travel days, still had an other post in my mind using an other route. Sorry. ;)
You will be fine with the 5 in 10 Interrail Pass.

No problem, thank you very much, Peter :)
From Munich, or Salzburg, i hope to can reserve compartiments on sections Budapest - Brasov and Bucharest - Istanbul. In this last, i don't know whether it's a good idea or not to spent to many hours on a seat... :|
Again, thanks.

Budapest-Brasov should be possible in Munich main station. Just go to the ticket windows. They will speak English. :)
From Munich to Salzburg you can use all day trains for free - frequent connections, so no hurry in Munich.

Hello again, Peter,
I have a question:
With the InterRail Pass, can I use the same train twice?
For example, Budapest - Brasov with train 473 and the next day Brasov to Bucharest with the same train. ?
Thanks!

Yes, of course.
There is no limit in the number of trains, as long as your ticket is valid on this day (in case you have a Flexi pass).

Yes. Keep in mind to use the 1900-rule for night trains for the trip to Brasov (only one travel day needed in case you spend the day in Budapest and do not arrive there that day); you will as well need a reservation for these trips:

Yes Flow,
In an agency offered me the train https://rail.cc/en/night-train/budapest-bucharest-d-1347/223 (D1347) but leaves Budapest at 22.30 and arrive Brasov at 11.21. This schedule change does not affect the rule 19h, right?
By this I ask if I can take the same train twice 473. Do you think this is better or take the train ister?
The itinerary is above, if you want to check the days and the rule
Thanks

Hej,
as I've written above you can use as much trains on a day as you want; also, you can use the same train as often as you want during the validity of your ticket.
You can use the 1900-rule for night trains :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train for both trains, also the reservation costs are the same as well as the coaches. Thus both trains are good - it just depends on your schedule which one you choose.
Depending on your overall schedule you might also think about this train :arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/budapest-brasov-ic-407/118

Hello Peter and Flo,
I'm back from my trip. It has been fascinating, following the same route as the firsts Orient Express.
The train from Bucharest to Istanbul we booked in Budapest, thanks to a friend who lives there. At the point of sale does not have much patience for help.
The train from Paris to Munich was very modern, and due to a problem in the way we had a slight delay, but normally arrives at time.
The train from Budapest to Brasov was the only one who had a bar, full of romanian ssmokers and this train arrived two hours late due to changes in locomotive and two border controls in the middle of the night. Were exciting.
Knowing the delay, At Brasov we had to take a regional train to Bucharest to not lose the connection to Istanbul
The train from Bucharest was the most beautiful, looked old and it was empty. The problem of this section was that we had to take two buses instead of one as I thought and was very tired.
IMPORTANT: From Bucharest to Istanbul you have to get TWO buses. First From Gorna to Dimitrovgrad. At Dimitrovgrad you have to wait to second train to Kapikule. At Kapikule you have to take another bus, after PASS CONTROL, to Istanbul. The Bus arrives to Istanbul between 6:00 - 6:30 a.m. I think, You must post this note in the web. The web only inform the first bus.
Thanks Flo and Peter for your help.
Was a very nice journey!
