Sofia to London via Belgrade

Hello, and sorry for the innconvinience but I didn't know where else to post the topic.
So, I am planning to travel to London from Sofia(Bulgaria) by Belgrade/and not by Buchurest/ , but so far from the things I've read one of the trains to Belgrade is not currently running and only the night train is available for reservations. Could you please possibly give me some info on the journey ? Like how many times would I have to change the trains, do I have to search for hostels to stay for the night?
