Hello.

We are a group of 5 from India, presently in Munich for a few weeks.
We would like to visit Berlin and Paris (from and back to Munich) over the next 2 weekends i.e 25-26 Aug and 31Aug-1 Sep. We would like to start on Friday evening and come back either by Sunday night or Monday morning in both cases.

The Eurail Regional France-Germany Pass (Saver) looks the most suitable for that.
https://rail.cc/en/eurail-select-pass.
If we can avail this, this works out to be cheaper than other train options and shorter than buses or other land connections.

However, i have a few doubts/questions about this pass.
1> When i checked with the DB Bahn Information Center at Munich Hbf, then said that the 2 country pass is not available with them, it only starts from 3 country. It's available on the railcc site though. Or is it something that can't be bought while in Germany?
2> I want to travel this weekend i.e. in another 3 days. I took a look at the shipping methods, and i could not find anything other than a standard 7-day shipping method. If i buy this pass from railcc, is it possible to have an express delivery? Or a physical address in Munich where i can pick it from?
3> There are options for 4/5/6 travel days in the Pass link. Does a 'day' here indicate 24 consecutive travel hours or does it refer to a calender day? If i start on Friday evening and reach on Saturday morning, will it be counted as 2 travel days or as 1?
4> Are there other options which i should look at?

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

1) The staff int the railway station is mixing the Eurail Select Pass with the Eurail Regional Pass you want to have: https://rail.cc/en/eurail-select-pass

2) No. Also we are not allowed to send Eurail passes to an European postal address, only to non-European postal addresses. Sorry. :(

3) Please read at the given link above:
ONE travel day lasts from 00:01 a.m. until 23:59 p.m. You can use as many trains and cross as many country borders as you want during one travel day.
AND
The 7 p.m. rule for night trains helps you save travel days when using a EuRail pass with flexible travel days: https://rail.cc/en/eurail-night-train
So using the night train leaving at 22:47h in Munich to Paris will count as only ONE travel day.

4) Important to know: for the train Munich to Paris you will need a reservation. These are very limited and I am not sure if you will get one for the following weekend, especially travelling at peak travel time like Friday and Sunday afternoon/evening/night.
Munich-Paris: https://rail.cc/en/eurail/munich-to-paris

Just ask again in Munich main station and always ask for the reservation before you buy the Eurail pass!!!

If you book early, you can always get special prices from Munich to Berlin and Paris, starting from EUR 39 one-way per person in 2nd class: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
But it is definitely too late now for these special offers.

Peter :)

Thanks!

It looks to me my options are
1> Check with DB Bahn information center, for both passes and reservation. Reservation before passes.
2> Change my plan (-;

Thanks a lot once again :)

Looks good your two options... ;)

You could also think about an other city instead of Paris (as a reservation is required) ...
Maybe Prague, Budapest, ... ?!
But always check this link to find special prices before purchasing a rail pass: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]

some years ago there used to be a eurail-specific office (run by some American) in the München HBF-if i remember well somewhere to the Starnberger flügel, near the tourist-office. he would serve all those difficult customers who took far too much time from the normal desks, as they knew nothing. is that still there?
