Berlin - Cologne - Munich (+Fussen) - Zurich - Verona - Venice - Ljubljana (+Bled) - Budapest - Krakow

Does anyone have any advice on whether this itinerary would work? Or tips to make it better/where to stop? I was thinking Amsterdam (or Paris/Brussels if cheaper flights) - Cologne - Munich (and Fussen) - Verona - Venice - Ljubljana (and Lake Bled) - Budapest, probably on a 10 in 22 day pass. Where else could I easily fit in that you think I really shouldn't miss? Or anywhere amazing to see if I were to extend after Budapest? (already been to Vienna though). Is there any way I could incorporate Zurich or other pretty parts of Switzerland (I wouldn't want to stay too long because of costs though)?

Ok so we've decided to add in Zurich between Munich and Verona. We want to keep everything between Munich and Budapest as it is, unless there's anything majorly wrong with it, but would really appreciate suggestions for the rest (I.e where to start off or if there's anywhere cool to add on the end).. We're curious if Krakow might be worth a visit? Does the Krakow to Berlin night train no longer operate - might it be reinstated by next summer? Would the easiest way to see Poland therefore be to get the night train from Budapest? When the idea came up initially we were thinking of Krakow - Berlin - Munich

Hi.
If you add Zurich, use this free and amazing route to Italy: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/zurich-to-milan
Then by free and local train to Verona.

Border crossing Italy to Slovenia: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/
Add Lake Bled in Slovenia.

Krakow is definitely worth to visit. For example Budapest - Krakow.
Then continue Krakow - Prague - Berlin

Interrail train connections are here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Thanks so much for your reply! We're thinking of doing:
(somewhere) - Cologne - Munich (and Fussen) - Zurich - Verona - Venice - Ljubljana (and Bled) - Budapest - Krakow - fly home
Would this work ok with a 10 in 22 day pass? :) Do you think it's too much? Not enough? We would have only used 8 of our days you see, or 9 if we use the pass to get to Fussen

I was also wondering if there's any way to combine both fantastical breathtaking scenery and time efficiency on the Zurich to Milan route.. I'd love to do the all-out scenic option but I don't think using up a full day on the trains is really what we're after. For example is there any way to do beautiful scenery for a few hours, but then make a change to get back on the fast trains route? We'd also love to spend a night somewhere typically Swiss and mountainy along the route, do you have any recommendations? :) Is Lugano a good place or are there better?

Also thank you for pointing out that there are free regional trains between Milan-Verona and Verona-Venice, this makes me happy indeed!

Hi.
No other choice if you want to cross the Alps this spectacular way.
You could stop in one of these hostels (I recommend the first one):

Albergo Ospizio Bernina: https://rail.cc/en/ospizio-bernina/albergo-ospizio-bernina/l1139

HI Hostel Pontresina: https://rail.cc/en/pontresina/youth-hostel-pontresina/l1138

On your way to Munich you could add for example as well Heidelberg (https://rail.cc/en/heidelberg/c), Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Nuremberg (https://rail.cc/en/nuremberg/c).

Switzerland is extremely expensive to stay, so I recommend to rush trough more or less.

And if you like to support railcc, buy your Interrail ticket via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you. :)
Peter :)

of course you can do that on a 10/21 day pass-in fact you likely overpay with it.
YOu are not to clear about it-but if saving money is the objective (not likely-see above), then use megabus.com for an overnightbus ex LONdon (or maybe the SBNCF Frecnh rail IDbus.com Lon-Paris), from 5€/gbp.
IF you can:1.prebook and stick to dates, a long trip via germany can be had for 40/50eur, or 2.use the landertickets or quer-durchs-land or happy weekend-slower trains only, but very cheap for more as 1 person.
The bottleneck is Venezia-Ljublj, NO more direct trains, detour via Austria or partly bus needed.

I don't really understand what you mean nltrainer, my aim is just to see the places I listed, and get there with a good balance between avoiding extra charges and getting there quickly so we can fully enjoy our time in each place. I plan to start the trip with a budget airline flight to maybe Berlin, because I live in the North of England, and it is very expensive and uneccessary for me to go via London! Paris also seems difficult in terms of extra charges.
Why do you think I would be overpaying? :| Even if I included an extra stop in Germany or Switzerland like Peter suggested? I don't mind paying a little extra here and there to save precious hours on the trip, or make journeys a bit simpler, but I really don't want to waste money unneccessarily :)
