Hey all
I want to book the Newcastle - Amsterdam ferry, run by DFDS Seaways, as according to the official interrail site you get 25% discount on most cabins with a pass.
But I can't see any way to actually book the discount on their site...
Anyone done this successfully, do you need to phone them to book it?
The interrail site's discount page just passes you to the DFDS homepage...
Also if anyone's used their routes and can advise about the food options (best value) that would be great.
Thnaks a lot! :D

Hey Jools.
I never used this connection. But I know it from other ferry companies like for example Stena-Lines (Harwich-Hoek van Holland) where you can get the discount only by phone, directly at their harbour office, agencies selling Stena tickets or a bit hidden only at their Netherlands website, not at the UK one. So I think it is the best to email/phone them.
Have a nice trip...
Peter :)

Hej Jools,
I cant help out either, sorry. I am not sure, maybe you can enter INTERRAIL as a promotion code as it is possible on the Stena Line website - they look very similar...?
Anyway, I am really curious about that issue and travelling on that ferry as well, so it would be very nice if you could provide us with some info in case you actually use the ferry. :)
I was thinking about taking that connection as well, but now settled with Harwich - Hook van Holland which is not that expensive.

-this discount may be not available during high season (just a possibilty)
-often the normal fares (on which you get the ''discount')are SO high that booking any other promotional fare/special offer works out cheaper anyway.
-often he discount is NOT for cabins, but for the basic fare for passage-any surcharge for huts/beds/cabins/meals is extra on top of that. At least it is certainly that way on Stena.
Note that DFDS docks in IJMUIDEN- where the trains stopped running some 20/25 yrs ago. There are loads of route buses to HAARLem (cost a lot without our tourist-fiendish chipcard) and also every 30 mins to WEST side of Amsterdam (station Sloterdijk) but not at ferry. There is a dedicated Ferrybus direct to AMSterdam Central (I think single is 10 eur, bookable same time as passage), or more buses when it is busy.
Food/drinks on board are VERY expensive and they prohibit you from taking own food/drinks-officially at least. Unless you prebook special deals for meals.
