hi,
We are planning to interrail through the Black Forest to Lake Constance and have a couple of days around the Lake. I have done a little bit of research but the area is so vast, we ideally would like to be close to the main train station to save on extra taxi fare, ut not too close because of the noise and we would like to be close to the water.
Does anyone have any recommendations for staying around Lake Constance? We would also like to know if there are excursions to get close to the Alps or maybe boat rides across the Lake we could take.
thanks very much

Hej Emily,
you can travel by train around the whole of Lake Constance...where to stay depends also on where you want to go next?

OK, well I only know the eastern part of the Lake, around Bregenz and Lindau. Staying there might be more comfortable as you have direct connections from both cities (more often from Bregenz but frequent connections Lindau to Bregenz) to Salzburg. So, if you are staying some days it might make sense to travel all the way through to either Bregenz or Lindau (in both cities you will find hostels) and stay there, then make day trips around the lake.
Depending on what ticket and how much time you have, you might also consider going to Switzerland, if you take something to eat and drink with you you wont have to spend so much and it wont be expensive. ;)
A quite special day trip would be to Graubünden to the Albula Bahn to visit St Moritz... :)
