just for the record: as per 23/7 a new German rail company will start to ruin (as competition) trains Köln=Cologne-to Hamburg, this is HKX=Hamburg Kóln Express. BOokable online (advance soem trains from 15€), but does NOT take IR-tickets.
There are hourly (free-no RES needed, but sometimes very crowded) DB trains on this route too for you and also local trains on every subsector.
